I originally thought it was a little silly, or not very practical. Definitely was not on my requirements list for the truck. But everyone at the high end Lariat had it. (I also have the FX4 package, so the truck is a little higher also). And with the 2015's they are hidden in tailgate, unlike the previous models. I would have definitely opted out of those as that handle gets in the way. But I find myself using it often, and has been one of the better physical features of the truck for functionality. It is very simple to deploy and retrack, takes hardly any time. About half the time I extend the handle, dont always need it.
I am really thankful I have it.

Has anyone tried installing this in a tailgate that doesnt have the step??

anyone know if its a "bolt on" option that could be installed of if you would have to get an entire new tailgate?
Well, if you *had* read all the posts, you'd see that there is at least one other option. AMP Research BedStep. $200 with free shipping. Ten minutes to install, and it's done. Almost as handy as the GM bumper corner step, and IMHO, much easier to use and handier than the Ford OEM tailgate step.

AMP Research BedStep

I do admit I've driven away with it deployed (twice). It's still plenty high it won't ground out.

yeah ive looked at those just dont like how its still visible when not in use. looks like it may be my only option though if the factory step isnt "bolt on"

The step? My comment? The pics?

It may not be for everyone, but it's a ****load better than having NO step back there. It's sturdy, handy, and cost-effective. It's no less ugly than the oem steps that mount on the box sides, and are in a better (corner) spot.

You can't just drop a 'lame' comment with no backup.

Agreed. I had one of these on my 05 Silverado and it was the best thing since sliced bread. My 2015 Lariat had everything I wanted except the step and was sitting on the lot...no ordering. So I decided to go without the built in step. However I will be ordering the AMP step ASAP. I don't think it looks bad at all. I mean it is a rear end of a truck after all not a Maserati.

I was impatient, on the truck itself, loved the truck at first, looks great, but already starting to have issues. Starting to regret more then the step, the entire piece connected to it.
