Default Tailgate Emblem Install Issue

Hey guys. So i purchased some emblems online that I was referred to. Long story short a piece of the tailgate emblem broke off and hes only discounting 20 dollars off for a replacement. He told me its only there for alignment and the tabs will secure it. I just dont want to take off the tailgate and have it not secured and waste my time. Anybody have experience of installing the tailgate emblem? Thank you!

The adhesive tape will hold it on no problem. Those tabs just make it foolproof to put in on crooked.

What year is your truck? I replaced my tailgate emblem on my recently arrived '18 old emblem just popped off and new emblem popped on no need to go inside the tailgate and the adhesive tape come off easily as well. He is right about what has broken off just being for alignments as long as the clips haven't broken there shouldn't be a problem. I didn't even use adhesive tape on the new one.

Oh i see. My rig is an 18 model. So you just pryed it off straight up with trim tools? Any trick to it? Thank you

Just be very careful when prying. Try to put some type of cushion under the pry tool so you don't scratch/dent your truck. Use some heat to soften the adhesive or put it in the sun for a while. You can take the tailgate panel off to allow you to push it out from the inside. If you're not trying to save the old emblem, just take some pliers and break all the clips off to make it easier to remove.

I would recommend opening the back panel so you can compress the clips and you can push the back of the emblem rather than just prying on it. Will make life a lot easier. As long as you have the adhesive that goes with the emblem you are fine without the alignment pin.

I just changed mine out this weekend on my 17', those posts don't secure the emblem at all. The locking tabs and and any adhesive tape you use is what will secure it. I didn't use any adhesives since the locking tabs snap into place and it doesn't budge.

Those are alignment pins. Not necessary to hold the oval on.

I didn't do that oval did I? There's no adhesive tape. And it doesn't look like the plastic welds were Not glued? I don't remember refunding anyone $20 recently.

No this is from somebody else. Ok good to know its just for alignment. Im just hoping the clips are enough to hold it together since theres no adhesive tape.
