Yeah I replace the tape when I paint them. Clips should hold. But the tape is supposed to be there...one of Mine...

I just used a plastic trim removal tool and a cloth on the paint to pry against popped right off

The 3M's sole purpose is to *help* bond the emblem to the truck, it serves no other purpose (like holding the emblem together) if that's what you're asking.

It just helps. The clips do 90% of the work
