Default Tailgate button not working

I have a 2016 F150 Lariat and when I try to open the tailgate using the button in the rear of the truck it will not work but the key FOB button still will open the tailgate. We tested the physical button and determined that it still is working and all the connections in that general latch area seem to be functioning. Anyone ever heard of this or know how I can fix this??

Do you have the fob in your pocket when pushing the button?

I'd assume the truck is still under warranty. Why not let the dealer fix it?

Yes I do have the FOB in my pocket when I try to open it. The truck has 52,000 miles so it's out of warranty. I asked the dealer to look at it while I was there getting recall work done and they told me I would have to pay $170 for them to diagnose the issue. When I told them I shouldn't have this issue on such an expensive and relatively new truck they told me they "weren't Ford Motor Company". Needless to say I won't be using that dealership again.

So you expect a dealer to work on your truck for free because it's expensive? Good luck finding any dealer or independent to give you free service because you feel entitled to it. When the warranty is up it's up.

I've had dealers in the past cover small things like this that were well past their warranty to show good faith on their part. I think charging someone $170 for a relatively new truck to look at a small button that takes 10 minutes to gain access to is kind of crazy. I'm not quite sure why you're responding to my post if you aren't going to help...

I agree, on all accounts (not that I was any help) but it would have taken the dealer 5 minutes to check continuity and at least tell you what the problem was.

Guessing, I'd say it's the connection at the actuator if the button is good as the actuator still works using the fob.

Default Same problem!

I am having the same damned problem. I have a 2015 King Ranch and it has continuity throughout the rear wiring but only the key fob works! Help!

So you push the button, and the switch has continuity? What is the voltage going to the release mechanism? At a glance, the parts are fairly inexpensive.

were you able to figure this out? I ordered a new button but it’s still not working and I don’t know what to do now.
