Tailgate button not working
Has this happen to my '15 Lariat, ordered the actuator, took off the panel on the inside of the tailgate and replaced it in less than 15 mins. This guy did a good job giving a step by step walk through of how to, no need to go to the dealership...they gave me the same recall and I brought it in only to have them replace everything except the actuator (cables, etc.) not only did they not fix the problem but put a nice dent in the door while it was in the shop...
My dealer has replaced my tailgate actuator 6 times.....They also replaced the rear wiring harness to no avail. They told me they replace tons of actuators in these tailgates and its a crapshoot to get a good one. After my experience, I believe them. This one has been good for a year now, knock on wood.
I have a 2016 F150 Lariat and when I try to open the tailgate using the button in the rear of the truck it will not work but the key FOB button still will open the tailgate. We tested the physical button and determined that it still is working and all the connections in that general latch area seem to be functioning. Anyone ever heard of this or know how I can fix this??
With ForScan you can monitor door (tailgate) circuits in real time and KeyFob location status. It is a helpful tool owners can use to help isolate the cause of failure for this issue. A tailgate not opening can have lots of different causes so one fix is not a blanket solution for everyone. I feel bad for the owner that had to replace his BCM due to a faulty non serviceable relay but it happens. The most common problem is usually the tailgate actuator on these trucks.
Spending a few bucks on cheap basic diagnostic tools first can go a long way as more 13 Gen F150s approach end of warranty.

mine 2019 lariat did the same I took it apart and inspected the switch and plug that plugs into switch . The prong on the switch wire was corroded. I clean it and it seems to work most of the time now very frustrating.
I tried replacing the button but it didn’t work. I should have checked the button continuity first but that’s on me. I took it to the dealer. They replaced a harness (front to back) that fixed the problem. Apparently there is some chafing problem near the fuel tank that damaged the wiring. So this wasn’t related to a faulty actuator, or button or the tailgate opening issue. Just poor wire routing by Ford.
I think I have the same problem. My tailgate only unlatches from my key fob or the number pad on the drivers door, not by the button on the tailgate itself. I did some continuity test troubleshooting and determined that the button and harnesses in the tailgate and under the bed work fine.
Do you happen to have the part number for that harness that runs front to back under the fuel tank? And if so, what year and trim level do you have?

If you can scan with FORScan or a diagnostic scan tool BCM DTC B10C6 would be what you are looking for.
