Default Tail Pipe delete with Turn Down

I'm tired of cleaning off the road debris off of the side exit tail pipe. I was thinking that the truck would look much better without the tail pipe. Has anyone just cut it off an added a turn down pipe near the spare tire? If so pics and experience

I like this idea. Ford really missed the mark with exhaust tailpipe IMO.

You'll want to check your local laws before cutting it off. Many places require the tailpipe to extend beyond the body to help prevent CO and CO2 from getting into the cabin.
If your area requires this, you could probably get around it by temporarily attaching a tailpipe extender for the test.

I do this on all my trucks. I have the muffler shop cut the stock tailpipe just after the rear axle. I first did this about 12 years ago because I had a pretty loud exhaust and the drone was bad at cruising speeds. I guy told me this would help dramatically and he was correct. It looks clean and kills drone. I am going to attach some pics of a previous truck with this setup. I do still put a tip on because it does control the sound and make it a little deeper with my 14in magnaflow.

Not sure about other states but here, for trucks it only has to extend past the passenger compartment of the cab. Beyond that they don't really care where it terminates.

dont have it pointed straight down like old school turn downs. i have them on my little ranger and mustang and they blow up dust on gravel roads like crazy. if u wash it and drive down a dusty road once it will be covered it again. for granted my ranger and stang are lowered so they might be worse than a higher siting truck, idk. i wouldnt do it on my new truck just because i have a long gravel driveway i dont like they way my other cars blow dust on it.

Turn down for what?

Sorry, couldn't resist. I personally would never want the tailpipe to stop underneath the vehicle. Always out from under the body. Getting stuck in traffic, waiting somewhere with the engine running in winter for heat, or summer for AC (pets, babies), there's too many scenarios where I don't want exhaust accumulating under my vehicle...

They only help so much. I have big mud flaps, wider than my tires, and my tailpipe still get covered. Nothing that isn't easily cleaned off though.

I don't think anybody would have to worry about exhaust fumes with the tailpipe ran back by the spare tire. I have been on the road for 10-12 hours trips sitting in traffic for hours at a time and there were no problems.
