Mine did that when new,, had dealer replace it after giving them three tries to fix it. Replacement works perfect.

This and the 36 gallon tank were must haves.

I prefer the AMP Research bed step. A lot quicker to deploy and you don't even need to use your hands to do it.

Then again I am biased, since mine didn't come with it and that was the only option.

I had the Ford option on my 2012 - didn't care for it.

I have an AMP Bedstep on my 2015 - simpler and easier/faster to deploy.

I am with you. I would rather do without the ford one and just install the amp step.

I thought about pulling it all out but I would have to get a new gate cap? Not sure if that is possible. I would rather have the gate lighter.

For me it doesn't serve much of a purpose I have a tonneu that only opens with the tail gate down. So I would really like the tailgate step

You cannot add the step. You have to get a new tailgate, or buy a 3rd party step.
