There are 2 NAV system / services.... The First Nav system is a "Garman" type Nav system which is standalone option (the $800 option) Maps are on the SD card. If you dont' get NAV then sync does not need a SD card.

The second "Nav Service" is a part of Sync Service and uses you smart phone / connectivity to provide Navigation as I understand it. Since I have the built in Nav system, I have not tried the solution provided via Sync Services...

This is correct. You get a free year of Sync Services you have to enable. I did and have used Nav Services and I do not have the $800 option. You do not get the on screen maps, but you do get turn by turn directions and routes. All used with voice commands, business lookup and directions, etc. part of XLT 302a

Well Crap... Now I am torn... My wife's car came with the Navigation '14 camaro and I think it's pretty cool being able to see the surrounding streets an such. just wondering if it is just a sd chip, could there be a cheaper solution.

After some quick reading I think that there is a different software version of MFT that uses the SD card for the Maps, which are up datable. Lots of SD cards out for sale for under 200.00 BUT I think unless you have the version of MFT it's useless. If anybody who has allready got their truck without NAV look and post what says in the upper left of the 8" display (IE insert nav sd card).? I think I already know the answer

Also If any owners with an older nav system... do you get updates to your SD card from Ford? latest version is A6

More reading....
This is from another forum...

New cards are available through your dealer, or eBay which is much cheaper. The latest version is A6, which will work with all versions of MFT. just be aware that because you have the touch screen does not mean you have Navigation. If your system is saying to insert the card when you start up, then you do have navigation. If you don't get this message and you don't have an sd card inserted then you don't have navigation.

I know this forum is about 2015 trucks, but the treads on later trucks seems to not have alot of postings that are current as the 15 thread, plus maybe many of you guys ran into this issue with past trucks you guys have sold or traded in.
I have a 2010 lariat, nav screen goes black, radio does not turn on and rear camera show black screen when tran put in reverse. These problems only happen once in awhile but it is an ***-ache. Did any of you guys or gals run into this situation and how did you remedy it? Thank you in advance for any feed back!

You don't get free updates from Ford. The only time I did was with the A4 navigation card. A MFT software update required a new navigation card, so it was free. Other then that one time, I've just been buying the updated map cards from Ebay. I bought an A5 card for $40 off Ebay. The new A6 card is still expensive since it just came out.

Ok guys I am super confused. I got a Lariat, MID and added Sony Stereo. I did not get Navigation. Are you saying I can get a SD Card, put it in and have Nav?
