Sync update caused fatal error
Vehicle in question is a 2016 Ford F150 Lariat. The Sync Version was 2.2. Went to Ford website and downloaded the 3.x version to the USB drive. Followed all the instructions, installation completed and said updates would take effect next time system reboots. Turned the truck off for a couple of hours and then went to restart it and the Ford splash screen came up and then screen went blank. Nothing. Radio comes on, steering wheel controls work, backup camera works. But Sync never comes on.
Took it to dealership and they help the battery cables together to try and reset it. Tried to reset it via the power and arrow buttons. System restarts with Ford splash screen and then goes blank. Dealer said it needs new APIM and it will be $1,300. Scheduled to go in next Tuesday. Before I do that, does anyone have any ideas on what I might try first at home?

I’m not sure if this would be helpful to you or not, but I just saw this pop up for sale on my local Facebook Marketplace (southern Utah). Factory head unit/touchscreen, amp/hub and also the factory sub. Says it’s out of a F-250, but looks identical to what’s in my truck

From another thread:
Did you try this?
...
However, while I was out there with my laptop I connected the USB stick to my laptop and found the stick itself had become corrupted. My computer did not recognize the stick and said it needed to be reformatted.
I reformatted the stick, copied over the files again, plugged it into the USB in the truck and the update completed successfully within 5 minutes.
