Default Sync update

I have a 2016 F150 with Sync ( version 1 / 5.9 version) and Myford shows a Sync update available.
The problem is there is no download link and it wants me to take it to a dealer for install.

Question~

Is the update worthwhile / add anything worth the effort and is there anyplace I can download and self install ???

Hi. I became very frustrated with the update on my 2016 F150. If your truck is under no warranty, like mine. I then used a product via Cyanlabs. "SYNC 3 Updater". Worked perfectly.

I’ll second the cyanlabs suggestion. I used it for upgrading the Sync3 system in my Mustang, it worked perfectly. I never could get it to work using the official website.

I also used Cyanlabs to update my wife's 2018 Focus to Sync 3.4 and also updated the nav maps at the same time. Worked perfectly.

Sounds like the OP has the Sync 1 with the 4” screen. If so, Cyanlabs won’t work.

I think my current version is 1.1 so looks like Cyanlabs is not going to work unless I convert it to a larger screen / APIM change.
Ford shows an update but does not list what it is.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

This site has what looks to be the correct download available, and the site author also fixed the install file that was wrong on the original Ford download:
https://willtaylor.org/ford-sync-1-0...with-download/

I’ll insert the “not responsible if you break your truck” disclaimer here.

The update is not vehicle/model specific, so should work for you. Just a heads up, there are reports of issues with this release online, so that’s probably why Ford pulled it from the site. Their “see dealer” verbiage is probably there so that if you did visit a dealer, they could ask if you are experiencing any issues with your system that an update might fix since the latest release has been buggy in the wild.

Thanks for the link and I was looking at the Ford direct download link and its a UK Ford website.
Is there anything in the UK version that would screw up the USA model vehicle ?

One annoying thing in Sync is the no phone book or nav functions while driving but Forscan can turn that off.
Think the UK version sets the country code to "fix" that issue??

There is nothing specific to the UK as far as install files that I’m aware of. The country code is set in the APIM AsBuilt.
