Sync Conncect
Looks like ford's updating sync 3 already and adding their own modem. Wonder if those with sync 3 will be able to upgrade?
Kinda frustrating to wait for sync 3 then find out the 2017s will have a better version still. Glad I don't have a 2015. It would have seemed really dated by the time the 2017s comes out.
First time buying a ford...do they always upgrade stuff this fast?

On that note I just upgraded from a 2002 to a 2015 so it will take some time for me to feel my new truck is dated
I don't understand these connected vehicles with WiFi... for what? My cell phone or my tablet which already have cellular data connection? Even using my HP tablet that doesn't have LTE works just as well by making my cell phone a WiFi hotspot and getting LTE internet access through that. Having something with a seperate data connection just seems redundant. Had they come out with this years ago then they would be ahead of the curve, but nowadays everyone already has data connections...
So, here's my question... we know there are two modules we can add on now that will enable additional security AND the iPhone based remote start/lock/unlock/alerts... is this the same module referred to in this writeup? If not, is this a new version of it?
I am guessing the current module is a cellular modem that communicates with Ford servers and allows the iPhone integration for start/lock/unlock/alerts... the only new thing listed with this article is vehicle status and start scheduling (which would be completely Ford server side anyway and could be done with current module). The additional vehicle status would be nice, and would seem that it could be done with the current module and new software?
Any speculation about what this new things is, or if it is really anything new at all, or may be just a remarketing of the module we already know about and can get today as an add on?

Dude it's not Ford that moves this fast; it's technology.
Technology is increasing at an exponential rate (Iphone 6 just came out last year or so ago, and now look at all the upgrades the 6S will have, for example).
You will always see something "newer and better" coming out. Personally for me having a touch screen bluetooth voice enabled navigation etc etc system in a car is amazing in and of itself.

Anyone know how Sync 3 communicates with other car systems? Is there some kind of bus aside from the OBD communications? If there is some new modem module for Sync Connect, I wonder if it sits on some other bus to get the additional status data.
I'd hate to buy the current remote access module and alarm module and start paying my $50/yr for service only to find a few months later that the new module is available to retrofit existing Sync 3 systems, and gets 5 years free...
As much as I am interested in this new technology, I am also concerned that Ford and other companies have ignored security... I should have FULL control to enable or disable the functionality on my vehicle... I should also have the ability to use it for my own purposes ONLY, and disable any Ford access to my vehicle for any purpose... and if enabled, I should be able to see a log of all communication with my vehicle.
I am quite sure we will not hear anything more about this until late 2016... and I am guessing that owner security has not even been considered.
