Default SYNC 3--what does this message mean?

Hey all,
Just found out about this mecca of info for our beloved F150s and am happy to be here!

My first post I bring a question to you all, what does this message mean? (related to setting up apple device on SYNC 3) I'm also putting a pic of the version I'm using on my 2016 XLT, along with a pic of it

TIA!

if you want to use mobile apps, you must have your phone connected using the usb plug.

i had the phone plugged one of the ports under the tray by the radio, which are the only 2 usb ports I'm aware of? I wonder why I'm getting that message? I'm not even sure what they mean! I'm able to use bluetooth audio, but i've read some stuff about apps and possible apple maps

Doesn't Sync 2.0 require the upgraded USB ports for Apple stuff to work?

What does the right hand picture say? Sync 3, version 2.0. That is all upgraded, no?

I beleive that's only CarPlay.

The message, as goathead indicated, says "Apple Device must be plugged in to Sync's USB port to work with Mobile Apps". Mobile Apps aren't CarPlay.

OP - Did you get this message while trying to access Mobile Apps w/ the Apple Device connected via Bluetooth by any chance?

I can't remember the exact message I got but I too was having issues. Turned out it was the USB cable that was the problem. I was using some Chinese aftermarket cable. Switched it out for an Apple version and sure enough it worked right away.

Again, I can't remember what my exact error message, couple be unrelated to yours, but maybe worth a shot.

Make sure your usb cable is good. Try another one.

Hi KyleAllbright,

Every has great suggestions! Check out this article to make sure you have everything setup correctly: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-...150&sync=sync3

I als agree with Rangeric and LoneWolfTrucker. Try another USB cord; specifically an Apple certified cable.
