Hey everyone!
Replying to text is a feature for SYNC 3, but it is a phone-dependent feature. Here's an article that explains it all: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-t...nd-sync-3.html Steps 4 & 5 provides info on responding.

As far as I understand it, you can only reply with that list of default replies from Sync3. I don't like that at all.
What I do instead is use my Android phone. I have a vent mount holder for it. It is connected via bluetooth, and I use Google Now and its voice recognition system to send texts. It will use the truck's speakers to playback audio from the phone, but I believe it still uses the phone's microphone (not the truck's mic) to listen to you. It works fine for now, and all I have to say the keyword "Okay Google", which anyone with an android system should be familiar with.
Also keep in mind that most phones will need to be charging in order for the "OK Google" keyword to be recognized while the screen is off. Otherwise, if not charging, you must illuminate the screen before using voice commands to the phone.
Anyways, it works well for me, since Google's voice recognition is flawless, especially when compared to Sync3. I still don't care for the steps that Sync3 requires in order to do things, like navigation. With googles voice commands, you can find a place and start navigation in one command. Sync3 doesn't; at least that I know of. If I'm wrong, please enlighten me!

Note: Apple has never optimized the use to reply via Bluetooth through SYNC. You will have to use Siri Eyes Free.
Hi 151504X4,
Have you upgraded SYNC to version 3.8: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...p-to-date.html The new update added Siri Eyes Free. It allows you to use Siri for most commands.

SYNC 3 has not had any updates yet. The previous poster has MyFord Touch. Siri Eyes Free is already available on your system.

On previous Android devices you could hold down the bluetooth call button and get a voice dialer. Newer Android devices and even older Motorola devices are able to use Google Now when you hold down the bluetooth call button. This is exactly the same thing as Siri Eyes Free.
It would be really nice if would not deliberately block this functionality on non-iPhone devices. The only thing that is needed is to pass the voice button long press to phone. I have a Pioneer Headunit that is several years old that is able to do this with either an Android or iPhone handset.

Sync 3 appears to disable the Eyes Free type functionality for non-iPhone devices. I understand the Siri Eyes Free is an Apple branded input method but same input method has existed on other platforms as well.

Siri Eyes Free is actually integrated into SYNC. If you would like to see a similar feature for another phone implemented, I recommend sharing your ideas on our Social site: Social.Ford.com
Also, keep an eye on the implementation of Android Auto this year: https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...roid-auto.html
