Sync 3 V2.2 PSA, Watch your data usage!
SO, whenever I turned on the radio after doing the V2.2 update there is a delay, the applink symbol is on the radio sector on the screen, then Pandora starts playing. OK, so it detects the iphone plugged into USB and selects that first.
Well this morning I had AM on, then switched to FM after a while then shut it off the last 30 minutes of my drive, wanted some quiet.
I get to work, shut off the truck and unplug the phone from USB, which lights up the screen and I notice that it had a song playing, which I recognized as one from Pandora. I unlock the screen and Pandora is NOT playing, so it runs in the background.
Well, I check data usage and sure enough data was used today, and since I am on wireless at the office all day I know it was nothing I was doing at work. I get in the truck to go home, start the truck, turn on the radio, which is still on FM, and then plug in the phone. It lights up, and about 30 seconds later, Sure enough a song starts to play, Not on the radio as FM is still selected and playing, but on the phone, and it is Pandora. It wasn't paused but actually playing!
Later on during my drive home, phone still plugged in, but no indication that Pandora is playing, my wife sends me a text, I listen to it, and then reply via Siri. After it sent, Siri is still locked on the screen, no radio is playing. Another glitch. I disconnect the USB from my phone, radio resets, and I had Sirius on at that time, and it resumes playing. I plug the phone back into USB to continue charging, and the radio switches to the iphone and sure enough, is playing Pandora. I disconnect the USB, still playing Pandora, this time via BT. I finally went into settings on the phone and switch off data usage for Pandora.
So be watchful of this if you have a small data plan and have Pandora on your phone, it plays in the background whether you want it to or not, and will consume data without you knowing it.

This sounds like an iPhone issue. Perhaps an update to the iPhone or the CarPlay app?
I haven't tested my iPhone as I haven't wanted to spend the money on the USB plug. But my Android phone will detect once it's plugged in and switch the source on from whatever I have it set on currently to the AndroidAuto (Pandora, Amazon Music, Google Play Music, etc..)

Going to try something. It appears Sync is start last played. If I have FM on when I turn it off, it will start FM, and if I have USB connected it will start USB, and if I disconnect USB it reverts back to last played which has been FM or Sirius. SO last played was media files on the iphone. When I get in to go home if it starts media files then I will know, if Pandora starts again then its Applink since Pandora is not running on the phone unless called for.
I have v2.2 and I use my iPhone to listen to downloaded podcasts. Whenever I plug in my phone, it starts playing Pandora, regardless of what it was last playing. It's probably my biggest current gripe about CarPlay.
So just fyi, I am not using Carplay, I don't have the upgraded hub yet. I did find out that if I play a media file on the phone, then next time up, it will play media and not start Pandora, even when FM AM or Sirius is played first. Have not had it running in the background for 3 trips now, unlike before.
When turning on the radio, if you see the Applink icon, it is starting Pandora. I no longer see the icon when turning on the radio now that I played media files. If I switch to Pandora, and shut off the truck, next time around Pandora will start.

I have 2.0 and have noticed while plugged in with CarPlay no matter what the previous setting was playing (FM, Bluetooth, CD, etc) it always turns off and switches to pandora and plays it through the truck speakers.
I purposely tried force closing the pandora app on my phone and turned on my regular offline music and sure enough once I plug it in, the music stops and pandora immediately starts playing.
I haven't experienced it continuing to play in the background after I switch it back to MP3 or FM via the trucks touchscreen though.

I tried that, it still opened it, but since it couldnt get data it quit. I saw it pop up on the phones screen then go away. Switching to the on phone media appears to have stopped it for me.
