Default Sync 3 with Nav Version 3 Update Help

Greetings,

I am new to the forums. I recently purchased a 2016 Ford F-150 with Sync 3. I am absolutely loving my truck but the one down side is that it only has Sync 3 Version 1.0 Build 15139. I went onto the Ford website to download the new update and that has been a huge mess. Apparently, there is an issue with the file that is on their website and it continuously gives an error when extracting. A Ford Support Supervisor told me that they are aware of issues with the file and they do not have a timetable for when it will be resolved. I asked if there was another way they could give me the file for the most recent update and of course they said no. My only option would be to go pay a dealer way too much money to do it. They also told me to check the Ford site periodically to see if the extraction error keeps happening with the file. I started checking almost daily a month ago. They haven't updated anything or corrected the error. So, all of that being said, is there anyone out there who has the update file for Sync 3 with NAV Version 3.0? I have searched the internet and have not had any luck finding such a file. I was really excited about having CarPlay but unfortunately, my current build doesn't support that. I was also reading through some of the previous posts on this forum and saw that there is apparently an issue where you have to change out the USB Hub on older models. I was confused by this because I was under the impression CarPlay would work without being plugged into the vehicle. (Maybe i'm just an idiot).

Anyways, since stumbling across this forum, I have read a lot of interesting information and insightful posts. I look forward to being an active member of this forum moving forward. Nothing better than spending my day browsing this forum and reading about trucks in place of working!

Thank you so much! Really appreciate that. It has been a struggle to get this updated for sure. I'm definitely going to look into getting a USB
hub replacement ASAP.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure if you are on v1 you have to go to v2.2 and then to v3.0. I Just did the upgrade on my father in laws 2016 F150 with no issues. I used these files for the v2.2. Someone else might be able to correct me but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere you had to go from v1 to v2.2 to v3.0.

Yeah, I read that somewhere too. I found the file for the 2.2 upgrade earlier today. I will do that one first and then do the 3.0 one. Just to be on the safe side. If it can go wrong... it definitely would for me. So, I won’t take any chances lol

Once you are on v3.0 you can then upgrade to v3.4 and get the latest maps as well. I did the process on a 2016 and does take some time. I did the upgrade from v1 to v3.0 on one night and then from v3.0 to v3.4 the next day. Everything still works the only issues i've seen is it now has a prompt at startup that the USB Hub is incompatible but the USB Hubs still work for everything that they did before. You still have to upgrade them for carplay to work but my father in law doesn't use that so not too worried about it.

That is very helpful! Really appreciate the info. I was worried about the v3.4 because I wasn’t sure anything above v3.0 was compatible with a 2016.
