How do the maps get updated? OTA? USB? are the updates free or do they need to be purchased? Thanks

 

I did mine over the WiFi connection here at home.

 

How much did it cost? I wasn't aware they had map updates out for SYNC3 yet.

 

Well after looking again maybe the maps didn't update?

It was just the other updates on the Sync 3 that it said it downloaded and updated.

I "think" they're $150 and I "think" they're OTA. That being said it's apparently been a while since any updates.

 

Its superior to use Google Maps with Android Auto or Waze, updated for free all the time. I assume it works the same for carplay

 

Embarrassing is the only word to describe how Ford is unable to get maps updated on a $700 navigation system.

 

My 2013 nav unit had maps version 1.13. This new one has 1.15, so there are some updates out there.

However I do agree that it is ridiculous how slow are the maps updated.

PS: the sync 3 I had on my 2013 came from an early 2016 ford. This one being a 2017 unit has a newer map version.

 

SYNC3 was first released in spring of 2015 (2016 Escape) and there have been no customer map updates ever for SYNC3 so far. This has been covered a few times.
