Has anyone considered that map updates stopped once Android Auto and Carplay came to fruition? Now you can use Waze, Googole maps, or apple maps on the Sync screen and bypass the built in nav altogether. Won't be long that OEM navigation will be a thing of the past.

Yea I agree with that. I upgraded from Sync 2 to Sync 3 and opted to go non-nav. Carplay works so well.

Not happening, they learned from the sync 2 hackathon from a couple of years ago.

Tell Tesla that. OEM Nav wont go away, simply because not everyone has unlimited data plans and there are still areas that have zero lte coverage. What I do say is that OEs have to step up their game to compete with Tesla/AA/CP.

I have it, it is utterly useless. As it has been mentioned, they have to have the SSL certs and thats where your VIN comes into play. Without having the correct plugins on the QNX RE, you're going nowhere fast.

Anything can be manipulated. Just takes the right person to figure it out.

My F150 Lariat absolutely HATES my Samsung S7... it drops linking during phone calls 20% of the time... Never finds my apps (Carplay is an App!)... Shows "Ford Pass" maybe 10% of the time... and Android Auto, takes 5 seconds to react to any touches, making it very annoying to use, plus I lose access to my Sync3 functions while in Android Auto mode, having to drop out of android mode to get to XM. Total PITA if you ask me.

I fixed the Map Update issue, by buying a Garmin Roadassist Dash Cam... now I have free lifetimes maps, updated quarterly, and automatically via Wifi... (that is how our F150's Nav should be!) I got tired of 2014 maps, that don't show any of the roads in STL built in the last 5 years. (of which there are several - including some pretty major ones, like the Page Extension.

Bottom line.. we paid for Navigation - - we should get Navigation, and Updated Maps, is part of that! OR.. Ford should give us all about $750 back as a refund for bad maps.

Link to that Garmin please. My Nuvi is getting old and starting to have recording issues. I guess falling off the window occasionally is not good for it. I have been looking for an RV nav with camera to replace the Nuvi with, but no one makes one.

BTW, my 2018 maps are so old it still shows the speed limit as 65 MPH on a road that changed to 55 3 years ago! I have the 17 update. My Garmin OTOH shows all the new roads just completed as well as correct speeds. I wont buy a vehicle with Nav unless its free.

Maybe they already knew people would be unsatisfied and start asking for their money. This is why they put this on my window sticker(and 1,000s of others):
Voice-activated navigation 795.00 XLT/LARIAT DSICT NAV –500.00

So, even if there were to be some legal action taken against Ford, they can say you didn't pay $750 or ($795).

One of the questions I asked my salesperson when I noticed my new truck had 2015 maps while he was going over things before I drove it home was how do i get the most up-to-date version. He told me "it updates over wifi." I specifically asked about the maps, not Sync. I admit, I don't clearly remember the word "free" being in there, but I had already been through the, "What? The maps in my new vehicle are over 2 years old!" when I purchased a Focus a few years back. What do you think the dealership would say if I were to visit them after a year and tell them their salesperson told me the maps would be updated over wifi?

I wonder if eventually Garmin or TomTom or HERE will partner with the auto manufacturers and offer a subscription service. Something like Sirius. You can have your built-in nav with updates for $10 or $15/month. I think many people would do this to avoid the separate device on the dash. I was just informed by TomTom that a dash mounted unit with free lifetime maps I bought 7 or 8 years ago will no longer be able to download the newest updates. They offered me a $50 to $75 discount on a new unit. Granted, the cost of both units would work out much less than $10/month, but what's the in-dash convenience worth to people?

My old Tom Tom also had lifetime updates, and no longer can be updated. Makes me wonder what their definition of lifetime is. Main reason I still have my Garmin is because it is also a dash cam. I bought it when I got my 2014 which did not have nav. I still use it in my Plat even though it has nav, mainly for the dash cam.
