SYNC 3- Full Tutorial
Until it is released I don't know why people are saying "no, it will not work" without a wiring diagram to prove it.
Unless Ford completely changes the wiring harnesses on the 2016 I would expect the SYNC head unit to connect with no issues.

Again. LOLPeople are saying it will not work because Ford says it will not work.
In the meantime, though, Ford dealers are in the position of selling cars and trucks with the old system, which can't be swapped out later on.
There is no way to get a MyFord Touch upgrade to Sync 3 in your existing car. There is new hardware and a new experience driving this system that the older setup simply can’t handle.
As an aside, the new Sync 3 system would be released, and installed, only in new vehicles. It is not meant to be “upgraded” from existing vehicles with other versions of the Sync system.
To date, all Sync systems are built on Microsoft-based equipment. The new Sync 3 is based on the QNX system by Blackberry.

Correct, you won't be able to upgrade. Ford announced at CES last week that MyFord Touch will continue to be updated but its hardware is not compatible with Sync 3.
The concept for Sync remains the same, however: Smart functionality in all cars, not just the expensive ones. "We've really focused on Sync always being a mainstream product," said Raj Nair, Ford's new CTO. Indeed, 95 percent of all Fords sold in the US this year had a Sync system of some sort onboard, and more than 10 million Sync-equipped cars have been sold. None of them, sadly, will be able to run the new version of Sync, which will debut in 2015 on 2016 model year cars.
But, if you are determined to try it, buy the parts and tell us how it goes.
Not necessarily correct, after all you can get an aftermarket head unit to replace the MyTouch on previous models. Sure, not much selection right now for the 2015 but that will change. However I still stand by my point that unless the 2016 is a complete redesign in wiring I see no reason the Sync 3 will not work in a 2015, and since you used "computers" as a reference I am an IT Specialist with over 25 years experience
So your comparison would be like trying to take a head unit out of a Ford and sticking it into a Ram. 2 different companies and 2 different settings

It gets done all the time...
And it will be a 10.1" screen so it won't fit. LOL I made that up... Just like everything else on this thread. We won't know until it's out for a while... I am fine with what's in my truck now. Works just fine. I would not take the time or effort to try to make it work even though anything is possible in the electronic and computer world.
If there a way and a also way to make a profit it will be done and someone will do it.
Look at the lockpick and the few other different makers of this kind of product. It would also depend on how much you want to spend to make it happen.
Me I would not spend a dime on upgrading. I would rather stick with what I got and use the already proven methods out there to hack it and make it better than what it already is.

You are missing the point. Those quotes are based on people wanting to know if the current operating system can be upgraded to the SYNC 3, which it can't be because the current hardware is not capable of running it. I am talking about physically removing the entire MyTouch Head Unit and replacing it with the new SYNC 3 head unit. People are just grasping at straws right now because nobody knows but time will tell and I still believe that the head unit will be able to be swapped out later. If for some crazy absurd reason FORD uses different harnesses a 3rd party will just create the proper ones.
I for one would be willing to pay to upgrade if it is possible to retrofit, but I absolutely do not expect Sync 3 to work on Sync 2 hardware. However, these systems are modularized nowadays, meaning the display, tuners, CD players (what are CDs anyway?), navigation unit, and the head units are not all integrated into a single big box behind the dash, so it is conceivable that replacing the individual components and having the truck reprogrammed "could" (didn't say "would") work.
I will say that it would have been nice for the first truck in the new generation of F150s would have had this slick little piece of technology..
I am glad to be 65 yrs old. The features of SYNC 3 are nice and I would be happy to have. Would I rather have not had my 2015 for the last 8 months to have SYNC 3, NO. Again personal choices matter.
