I did the WIFI connected update. You can start the update and it will continue with the truck turned off. However, it depends on how strong and stable your signal is. Mine is very strong and very fast, so I just sat in the truck until completion (10 minutes). I would have done the Thumb drive method but i didn't have an empty one available.
