Anyone else have these same grey buttons with the 3.4? Shouldn’t there be some color in the texts? I can barely see anything.

Master reset, found in Settings> General> “Master Reset”, resolved this issue.

My '19 is updated to 3.4 and I am texting through bluetooth. I hold the talk button down for a few seconds and Siri comes on (top right button on the right side of the steering wheel). A quick press will bring up the Sync options, a long press brings up Siri. I tell her to message XXXX and she asks me what I want to say, I speak and she confirms and asks if I want to send the message. The screen doesn't change on the radio but it is the same prompts I get audibly as when I am plugged in using car play. I notice when I do this the screen on my iPhone shows a black screen with a car on it like it does with CarPlay.

A word of caution. Sometimes Siri kicks on and then right back off. If this happens I turn off bluetooth on my phone and turn it back on and reconnect to the radio in the truck and it seems works afterward. I have also found that turning the truck off and back on fixes it when this happens. It works more often than it doesn't. I haven't been able to determine what is different when Siri kicks on and right back off without accepting input but a quick bluetooth restart gets it going again.

Normally I plug my phone in if I am going any distance but it is nice to be able to send a quick text message via bluetooth during quick trips around town. I don't know if it is supposed to work this way but it has for me the times I have tried it since the 3.4 update.

This is what mine looks like, too. I tried to do a master reset, but the button for setting is greyed out and does not allow me to access it. I did an online chat with Ford and they said it will need to be taken to the dealer...

Try holding the power button and the right arrow key, next to the media button, simultaneously for 5 seconds. It should restart. Then try the Master Reset. That’s what Ford had me do.

You can try to update it again. It worked with my phone plugged in. It seemed like it had to update twice and only did it when my iPhone was plugged in. Not sure if that’s related though.

How do the updates work? If the truck is in range of your Wi-Fi, but you shut off the ignition and go inside, does it stay connected and finish the update?

That was what Ford tech (via chat) instructed me to do. At the time, it didn't change anything and because the Sync display was showing that it had already upgraded (partially?), the tech said it couldn't be re-upgraded using anything available to an end user/customer; hence, the referral to the stealership.

Interestingly, this morning I went out to my truck and was looking thru the menus, and I now I _am_ able to access the Settings|General tab, and I was able to perform a master reset. I lost all my settings, of course, but it looks like the menus and everything are working correctly now.

This whole thing has taken maybe 3-4 weeks from when I first noticed the change. Can't say I'm too impressed with the Automatic Update feature on Sync. Guess what was the first thing I disabled after performing the master reset...

I just went through the 3.4 update, as well. I didn't realize what was going on when my Sync display went blank while driving. I thought it was dead. After a while it came back on and all the displays had changed. After going through everything, I am disappointed in the change eliminating the "all black" background. I find the display distracting, especially at night. I run it in night mode. In the previous version I could adjust the "brightness". Now that feature is greyed out and does not function. Ford: Add features, don't take them away. Ugh!
