Sync 3.0 Update - MEM_ERR03 error
Can't update Sync to 3.0, keeps giving a MEM_ERR03 error. Tried (2) different USB drives as well as formatting exFat and FAT32.
2016 F150, non-NAV, currently on v2.2. Am I missing a step somewhere?

Going to rekindle an old thread as I am getting this error and I am lost. I read through the information that was linked in post #4 but the link to files is dead and I am wondering if you all can get me in the right direction.
I have a '16 F150, Sync 3 NON NAV Version 2.0 (I have never been able to update, 2 years ago it would just show updating for 1 hour and I gave up, this time I am determined)
I am attempting to install most recent version of 3.0.20204 via usb downloaded from Ford Support per my VIN.
I am getting the mentioned Mem_ERR03 error code after it rebooted itself.
Does anyone have a method for going from 2.0 to 3.0.20204 ?
I hate to fix something that "isn't broke" but my truck is dropping/restarting android auto intermittently and I want to check this off the troubleshooting list.

Non nav units don't have enough memory and error out, even with official Ford downloads. Its best to do the apps file by itself and then do the voice file. By doing them separately, you will have enough room for the file to be moved to the unit and then updated. You don't have enough room available to move all the files at one time and do the install.

I have an appointment this weekend for various items at the dealership I purchased from. They told me they do free software updates for customers that purchased from them. I explained the issue I was having. They told me they will take care of it. Fingers crossed they have a good tech and take care of it.
So for future reference to people having this issue, I would recommend not taking it to a dealer to try to have them update the version. My experience was a waking nightmare and after it was all said and done I wish I had just tried again myself even if I screwed it up. Very long story short, dealerships have very little ability to work "outside of the box" that Ford holds them to. My dealership had issues wiping the SYNC 3 version I had (2.0) and reprograming to the newest version. End result was basically corrupting the files, resulting in a new APIM needing to be installed. Price for that is around $900. Thank God I have the Premium Care extended warranty (paid for by dealership because I have had so many catastrophic issues) and it only cost me the $100 deductible.
Figured I'd chime in as I just picked up a 2016 F-150 XLT Non Nav and the first thing I noticed is that when I got it home and plugged my iPhone 11 in nothing happened, not even a charge. First I checked the wires and even though the dual usb hub lit up, nothing happened with the phone plugged in. Then I started researching and looked up the Sync Version on my Non-Nav display, which was still at Sync 1.0. I tried to update via Ford's instructions via Wifi and USB, no dice. Looking at the part number for the dual USB hub, I found out there is a updated hub which is part number HC3Z-19A387-E for Apple Car Play. I grabbed one of these for $52 on ebay, switched it out and plugging my iPhone in now I at least got a charge. Next, I took the Sync 3.0 latest update file which is named JR3T-14G381-AX.zip and on a Windows computer I unzipped that to a 128gb ExFat flash drive and made sure the file structure looked exactly like it does in the example on Ford's website. I tried this on my Mac even with Stuffit Expander and it still didn't work, however using Windows, I unzipped to the drive, made sure the files were in the root, not under a folder and plugged it into the new USB with the car running and the install began. It took 26min for it to install, then I turned the car off, turned it back on and checked the version, and it STILL showed Sync 1.0 with the same build. I removed the drive, removed the iPhone, and then did a Master Reset via the dash. Once it rebooted, I plugged the iPhone in and bam, Apple Car Play prompts to setup started. Got everything setup and now it's perfect and everything is updated as expected. Thought this may help anyone else having the same issues.
