Default Swap F150 platinum door sills with F350 platinum illuminated door sills?

Hi. Just bought a 2018 Platinum F150. I was looking at 2017 F350 platinum as well and I noticed F350s come with illuminated door sills. Since the cabs are same on both the trucks is it possible to swap the door sills?

You can get them aftermarket. I believe F 150leds sells a kit.

Yes you can swap the door sills from the 2017 Platinum super duty over to the F-150. I have done this on my 2016 Platinum (why Ford didn't put illuminated door sills on the King Ranch, Platinum and Limited models is beyond me...I guess they wanted to leave it exclusive to the Limited model only...). When I get back home on Friday, I will dig up my schematics I had scrounged together as well as the part numbers (if I haven't posted anything by then send me a PM so I get an email reminder). You'll need 4 small wire taps to do this simple mod as the connector is not there (or at least it wasn't on mine...). If memory serves me right, the hardest part was finding the correct 2 wires in the rats nest of a wiring harness down there.

As a side note, these door sills were only available on the 2017 Platinum super duties....Ford discontinued it from their 2018 Platinum super duties, so I would say it will become more difficult to locate these as time goes on.

So, I did some digging through my phone (who would've thought the "Recently Deleted" notes would ever come in handy?) and found some part numbers I had jotted down and I'm pretty sure they are what I ordered. I also remember questioning if they were illuminated or not as I don't believe they say anything other than "premium" in their description. Unfortunately I didn't jot down the pig tail part number when I wrote down these other numbers, but 984 or 948 seem to pop in my mind. Like I mentioned earlier, I'll confirm all these on my invoice when I get home Friday. I also don't have any pictures at the moment but will take some Friday as well; stay tuned.

As promised, wiring diagrams and info (.pdf attached)! I've also attached a picture I found on my hard drive from when I installed them (its a picture of the wires I tapped into and the wire taps I used) and a couple of pictures of them installed on my F-150 (its tough to get a picture of them as its either too bright outside to tell they're illuminated, or its so dark that they appear blurry in the photo).

WPT-984 is the correct pigtail; both sides are the exact same connector.

HC3Z-2613208-AA and HC3Z-2613209-AA are the correct part numbers I ordered; they will have LH or RH molded into them when you receive them; LH is the driver side.

The hardest part will be locating the correct wires. I only used the connector diagrams which said they were "VT" (Violet), "BK" (Black), and "BK-WH" (Black with White stripe). I then found what I thought looked like the correct wire (all violet with no stripes), took a small needle, poked the needle through the wire sheath, and tested the Voltage reading when the door was open ( you should see a reading of ~12V when the door is open...you can use anywhere on the truck body as a ground). Once you have the correct wire, tap into it. I repeated this for both sides for the "hot" wire. As for the ground wire (the black or black and white wire), its a bit of a risky guess as you need to take something that is hot (I used the hot wire I just tapped into) and use your multimeter to take another reading, except this time you use your needle in the black wire that you think is the ground as your ground point for taking your voltage reading. If it shows 12V, you have yourself a good ground wire to tap into.

Once that is done, you simply tape up the wiring harness again (I even used the same colour electrical tape that the factory used) and then you can easily remove or replace the door sill, the same as factory. Enjoy!

Does it look like the brushed aluminum that says "platinum" could be popped out and replaced with one that was custom made to say lariat? Or is the clear plastic that the light shines through cut to fit into the platinum letters?
