They are structural.. that bar is structural support for the roof because it's got such a big hole in it and it's only aluminum.
sheesh… this airbag situation is really sketch. I’ve removed the bolts I can see and it’s not budging at all. Seems wild that I can’t remove it without removing the aluminum bar and airbags. i don’t see any additional holes on the new part that I haven’t already removed.

do I need to peel the barcode looking stickers off?

I just grab it at the front and pull it down, firmly. There is some "give" to it if you pull it firmly, and it doesn't seem to hurt anything.

Ok I did it! I think the biggest thing that helped me figure it out, in addition to your pointers, was when I pulled back the rubber gasket around the door I could see that while pulling down on the main part there was a little black plastic part that pops in and out to hold it in place behind the bolt alone.

now I’ve got the whole track out and it’s laying side by side with the new track. My issue now is detaching the sunshade from the old one and installing it on the new shade. Any pointers there?

Okay, so remove that little wire retainer thing. T15 screw, it pivots out of the way. New track won't have one, it just has a rubber piece that goes in the same place.

The shade is tricky.

So you're going to need a paper clip, straightened out. 2 good size flat head screwdrivers. Another pair of hands would be nice...at least for installing it on the new track.

Note how the little leather (or whatever it is) strip on the edges of the shade fits under that little tab on both sides. It's a **** to get back in place.

You "click" with the screwdriver, that long metal rod. It "rotates" counterclockwise, with will be "backward" if you are looking down at the track like you're standing in it there. It'll kind of "snap" out. It snaps back in, too. But the new track has one on it as well, and you're going to have to remove it to put the shade in, so practice on the old one first. If you break the tabs it "clicks" on to, you're screwed.

Now: The shade itself "clicks" onto the 2 tabs on either side, as you see. You'll take one screwdriver and put it in the slot to release the pressure on each side, and it'll snap loose a bit and rotate around. Once both sides are loose and will rotate, you'll see how it moves. When you rotate it and get that metal part of the shade loose from those pull tabs, you better damn well have hold of it, because it's spring loaded.
So let it roll up some, and on the left you'll see a small hole. Put the paper clip in that hole, and move the shade back and forth a bit and you'll feel it line up with another hole and it goes in there deeper. At this point it's locked in place, and you can remove it.
I let the shade retract way back, so the metal bar is just in front of the rolled-up part.

When you install it in the new track, you'll need to pull it down and get those leather strips under the tabs again. This is where extra hands help, because you can pull one side a bit farther and get the strip in place, and have someone hold it there while you then do the other side, because again...it's under spring pressure. Once you get them back into place and the shade edge strips are moving correctly and nice and tight, you can move the bar towards the 2 tabs. It goes under them, you rotate it back, and it goes on with a turn and a final click on both sides.

Remember top snap the metal crossbar in front of the roller in, and put the rubber piece where that wire one was on the old track. It's permanently mounted to the new one, so it should be right there.

I will download one of your pics and try to put in a couple of arrows and annotations. Don't laugh at the lack of skills in that area, lol.

you’re right, that was a pain in the butt to get those little vinyl flaps into place. I have it all installed but when I move it down and back (testing out the tracks before I reinstall), it doesn’t really spring back so it kinda bunches up. Only worked fine before, so I’m kinda just hoping with the motor in place it will roll the shade back up as the cables pull it backwards. If not, that’s gonna be a major traffic jam.

edit: adding Video

that is way too loose. You need to remove it and roll it up tightly and put it back in. Roll it up to where the metal bar is almost at the roll and you have to pull it away from it.

Also, make sure those to pull tabs that the shade bar attaches to are dead nuts across from each other. They need to be dead even with one another or the shade will have wrinkles

alrighty… so I got the new sunroof full track replacement installed a few weeks back and then this weekend I realized that the new part didn’t come with the little mesh piece that flips up when the front glass slides back. Is that normal? I still have my old track and have mostly loosened the part but it seems to be riveted in. Any

Suggestions?
