Default Sunshade won't open

Anybody know a trick to get the pano sunshade to open when the buttons are non-responsive?

I am familiar with the reset/calibration process and have done it successfully in the past, when I had to change the arms... that is not working... I get no response from the sunshade open and close buttons, the vent button, or the roof open button... the close button results in some motor sound but no movement (the roof is closed).

I have a leak that I am trying to troubleshoot and suspect the roof drains are clogged (not coming from the drain lines or sat antenna, but it seems to be over-topping the sunroof pan, but since I can't get the shade open I can't get a look at what is actually happening from anywhere but under the headliner...

I also have the issue that the sunroof itself has become non-responsive (worked fine after replacing the arms a few months ago) until all of a sudden no-go...

So nothing works? Glass or shade? And you're saying you hear a motor running but nothing moves with the sunroof? That sounds like lower guide breakage.

Which is odd that the shade wouldn't work. It won't close all the way if it doesn't *think* the glass is fully shut, but it should operate from close to half-open just fine.

I hear a sound from the motor when I hit the close button for the glass… no sound when I hit the vent or open buttons… no sound for the shade open or close… everything is closed… already replaced the arms and everything worked fine until it didn’t…

Describe the sound you hear from the motor.

The shade should always close at least halfway, even if the glass is open. It won't close fully unless it *thinks* the glass is fully shut.

So it's odd that you hear a noise from the sunroof motor and the shade doesn't work, unless the shade motor is just bad. Rare, but it can happen.

it sounds like it it would when it finishes closing… just short… a little rev… and to be clear the shade is 100% closed

Might be time to remove the glass and look for broken lower guides.

*lower* guides. Not the arms. The carnage from the arms might have taken them out or led to them failing later.

You can always drop the shade motor and open it manually. Just loosen it enough that the gear disengages from the cables, and gently push it back. I have a video on how to remove the sunroof motor, the shade motor procedure is the same, it's just the other motor.

I'm on my phone so it's a little harder to post the video, but search my username on youtube. You'll find it.
