Default Storm damage..

So, got up this morning after last night's storm blew through, with a guilty looking, heavy branch sat next to my truck, and a dent in the tailgate.

I'm going to take a trip down to the body shop later, but would appreciate any thoughts as to thoughts on whether this can be fixed cheaply?

Many thanks.

G

1st call your insurance, 2nd will probably require a tailgate replacement

That metal looks creased pretty badly. Im guessing a new tailgate is in your future.

Yep, my money is on a new tailgate. I would think that would either be impossible to fix or they'd have to use a lot of bondo to get the body line back to normal.

It seems like such a shame to junk a whole tailgate for this.... but I guess that's the issue with aluminum.

Having just gone through it recently, first take a look at your insurance and deductible. I bought a tailgate shell myself and had a body shop do the rest. It cost me just under $1000 which is my deductible. To have a shop acquire the needed parts and handle it all through insurance was about $1600. I figure I made out in savings on future premium increases.

This is a comprehensive claim. It will cost your deductible and not affect your rates. This is one of the reasons you have insurance.
