Stop/start disable
I have not seen any problems with any of the trucks that I have done this to. No codes or alerts are produced. The oldest is a '17 and has somewhere around 130K miles. It still has the original battery.
If it only remembered the setting, 5 toggles to get to Sport mode. The disable button is easier. But disconnecting the BMS sounds like the answer.
I think that by leaving mine intact I'm getting a warning that my battery is about to go. My four-year-old battery is always charging. This is to the best of my understanding which may or may not be relevant.
It was my understanding, and I could be wrong, that this would disable the trailer connection as well. I tow enough that I didn't want to be fumbling around with that all the time. The AutoStop Eliminator isn't the cheapest option, but I looked at it as a one time cost to avoid the aggravation for the life of the truck. I went for the OBD version to avoid tearing into the dash, and I have no intentions of using the OBD port for anything else fulltime. Took two seconds to install, open box and plug in. Never worry about the Autostop again, no negative side effects, and if going back to dealer can unplug it and put it my pocket so no warranty issues either.
I tow various trailers frequently and have never had a problem with the trailer connection. There are several methods out there to accomplish disabling the auto start/stop system. My suggestion to everyone is to do what you feel comfortable with. For me it was unplugging the BMS connector.
