Default Steering Issue

I was wondering if anyone has had an issue with their steering on the 2015 F150 Lariat. When I drive over certain types of bumps in the road at slower speeds and at highway speeds it feels like someone is tapping the steering shaft with a pair of pliers. Of course it is intermittent and does not happen all the time. I have had it into the dealer twice now and they take it for a spin and of course nothing happens. Not sure if it is something not tight in the steering linkage or play in the rack who knows?? The truck has 30,000 KM on it.

I have a strange click from time to time kinda like you described. Just clicked 30K and it still happens but doesn't seem to effect anything. I also have a cluck from the bed. Not sure it that's the bed, suspension or brakes. This also doesn't seem to have effected anything but I wonder what causes it. Dealer said the didn't hear it.

Yes I feel the same thing on my new 2016 KR. I believe it is play in the rack unit itself as my 2009 Platinum had the same issue. I know the power steering is electric now but am betting the gearing in the rack unit is still the same. Back in '09 there were others who had this issue and even went so far as to have Ford replace the entire rack unit. Mine feels like there is 1/16th to 1/8th" play in the steering...but ONLY when you hit sharp cracks in the road or cross a manhole cover. It's most noticeable when just driving straight down the street and you cross a crack in the asphalt...then you feel a "nibble/niggle" in the steering wheel. Almost like one of the steering column u-joints has just a bit of play in it...driving me nuts but I may just learn to live with it as I'm sure my LFD is going to say the same "can't replicate the issue"...please keep us informed of where this leads for you as if there is a minor fix, im on it!!

It's funny what you said because after the service tech. finished telling me that they could not produce the issue he then quickly told me exactly what the rack costs to replace. Yet he told me they have never had this issue before.

If your build date is 09/24/2015 or before check Ford Special service memo #45685 it is a reflash of the EPAS control modal should be under 3/36 warranty

My truck does this too, feels like something is loose in the suspension and its feedback in the wheel. I can occasionally feel it in the pedal too.

SSM 45685 has been superseeded by SSM 45996

Default Steers to the left ---turning right you feel high pressure

Yes it's a rack problem and Ford knows it but won't admit to it.

Since I last wrote my original note my truck has gotten worst and the rattle/vibration or whatever you want to call it should be easier for the Ford Tech to feel it now. When I come down a large hill at highways speeds it feels like I might have a warped rotor due to the pedal pulsation. Yet if it was warped I would feel it all the time and I do not. Funny enough my next door neighbour has an F150 as well and complained about a similar problem with his brakes and in his case it ended up that a tech noticed that one of his lower control arm bushings was worn and had play in it. He changed it and the problem has gone away. When my truck goes in I will be checking that as well.

You won't feel a warped rotor all the time, only when you brake you will feel the low and high spots ,this will give you the pulsation.
