I completely agree with you here. I don't mean to be throwing any crap at Ford, they've been nice in this process. When I said directly or indirectly to blame, I was referring to either Ford having some sort of (unlikely) metal problem out of the factory or (more likely) the dealership screwed up. Indirectly being the dealership that they "license" for work. Dealerships that cause problems like these should not be licensed, lol. Regardless, my bad, did not mean to make it look like I was blaming Ford. It is a wonderful truck so far no doubt. Their QC could use some touching up on though... seen some other posts around here about that.

If the body shop doesn't want to cover it I would just bend the sharp bit in so it's flush and use a paint touch up pen on it you would probably not even notice.

Update:
After trying several times over the course of three weeks, I was finally able to get in touch with the GM. He tried to hang up almost as soon as he answered and had zero interest in hearing what I had to say. I tried to discuss two issues with him and barely halfway through the first he started talking about how he had other stuff to do. Both issues were very important.

The second was my split bodywork concern. He told me that there's no chance the body shop removed my bed. Funny, because they specifically told me that they did. And the tailgate. And the bumper. I do not believe that he knows whether they actually removed it or not.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on how this may have occurred?

What does your work order say? What they did should be detailed in the comments section.

IE: remove and realign bed, realign bed, etc....

I would be surprised if they actually removed the bed to realign it, but they could have.

The body shop person specifically told me they did as she went off on me when I complained that nothing was done. It wasn't just bed alignment, it was a bunch of issues including the bumper.

That said though, I am trying to find out the answer to your question. Have not received a call back about it yet from the manager and have the feeling that the GM already told them what I said. Wouldn't be surprised here if their story changes 100%.

What do you think of the damage? it is from underneath, in between the bumper and the bed. Nothing I could "back in to" would cause this without scraping the surrounding paint..

Thanks for your response, and yes I agree on fault considering location of damage. Unless my wash mitt cuts aluminum, lol..

I have already opened a case with Ford and was assigned a CSM. We are "working" on this issue to have it "resolved." Will keep this info updated too. Appointment at another dealership on Monday.

So they didn't give you a copy of the work order invoice? They should have given you a copy, that's your proof for warranty purposes. I have a file with every scrap of paper for work done on the truck. Every time I get an invoice, they need to fill one out to claim back to ford for reimbursement.

What the service writer tells you is pretty much immaterial. They're not techs, they're (more or less) just appointment bookers. All they can tell you is what the techs tell them and the techs typically enter the "rectification" at most serv departments. They do at mine.

Damage is in a funny spot though. That much is certain. You'd have to hit something at one weird angle if they try to claim it happened when being driven. Looks to me the only way that kind of impact damage could occur if if the bumper was removed and something struck it.

Keep in mind I'm looking at pics on the internet and my opinion isn't worth spit to your dealership....

Your opinion means a lot to me, that much is certain! The pictures you see are the best that I could get, and looking at them now, they look the exact same as the damage does in person.

The person who told me this was actually the body shop manager/supervisor/estimator (not sure exactly). She works closely with the tech who does the work. Assuming she wasn't lying, she knew exactly what was going on. They may have left the work order in my truck but I can't remember. They should have a copy.
