What truck are you scanning and what are you using to scan?

If you walked up to a stranger and said what you did (using that sentence), would the stranger know what you meant?

Although Ford claims you can update the 2016 F150 SYNC software through WiFi, I have never had it work. The only way to update your SYNC software is to go to the Ford download site, enter you VIN, download the update to a USB drive, and then install it from that USB drive. Its clunky but works most of the time.

My updates with sync 3 over wifi work flawlessly. Trick is to search click update, and leave your truck alone for a few hours. Mine would work better if I didn't park it under an aluminum carport so I pull in front of garage every few months and click update. Don't get in a hurry, it's not Apple we are getting the download from

what does your say while you leave alone. Mine just said "scanning for updates " with the circle rotating. It never indicated that it was updating.

Are you inside a garage or some other structure where the signal might be impeded? Wifi connection strong?

After a good while, it will say something. Park it with a good signal, click check, walk away. Go back later, it will say something. Leave it overnight with automatic updates turned on, again, a must for a good signal. If borderline signal, move your wifi modem closer to the window where truck is . I'm lucky (or pay ridiculous) for a great Comcast signal, even then it gets finicky under my carport next to the garage.

You have a 2020. I have a 2016. There is a huge difference when you are talking about WiFi abilities.

Never got an update ota with my 16. Always had to download it from the Ford owners site.

My 2020 has updated a couple of times ota. Maybe more.
