Default Slight rust on bed frame

I removed my Weather Tech bed cover in prep for trading in my 2016 Lariat.

There is a weather strip with 3M sticky back that attaches to the front edge top of bed frame against the bed of the truck. When I removed that strip I can see rust color all along that frame edge. I suspect it is a result of whatever moisture is trapped while the weather seal is in place. FYI: I have the spray in bed liner. I am going to grab a can of matte black paint and lightly spray over it.

Just wondering if the bed frame is made out of steel as opposed to aluminum or the spray in has metallic content? How did rust form?

Picture would help understand where you are talking about. I myself would not worry about it trade it and forget it. The dealer don't care

You guys are so damn picky. Now it is worth a thousand words!!!

It kind of looks like ground in dirt. I did trying scrubbing it with no effect though.

IIRC, I used some detailer on a couple spots like that on my '12. You could even spray some paint on it if you wanted. I wouldn't worry about it, the dealer will have it detailed out anyway.

I'd bet it was dirt before rust. What does the bottom of the bed cover look like?

It looks like dirt. Put a magnet over/along it to see if it attracts.

My plan is to hit it with some black spray paint.

Bed cover was not in contact with that area. The L shaped rubber seal was and that has been tossed out. WeatherTech sent me a new one - no charge - for when I reinstall on the 2018 Platinum that is on order.
