Default Rusty pumpkin

I have a 16 XLT SCREW 2.7 Sport4x that I picked up less then 2 months ago. The truck has only about 2k miles on it, but the pumpkin / rear axle assembly are showing quite a bit of surface rust already. Is this a common thing? Living in NE ohio any sign of oxidation is fear inspiring. Thoughts on putting a quick stop to this?

Most do, clean it off and spray bomb it if it's a big deal to you.

I brush on Rustoleum black on my trucks (they all get rusty). I don't use rattlecans because of overspray. Always one of the first things I do.

Yep, it's common. Take a drive through a dealership (Ford, Chevy, etc) and look underneath. It's pretty unsightly but common. I'm doing underbody for that reason but that doesn't touch the rear diff...so I'll have to take care of that on my own. So will you, unfortunately. I wish they would coat these things from the factory.

I plan on having my truck for at least 7 yrs possibly 10. Anyone have pictures of the areas they rust protected. I am not sure what I should protect and what I should not touch.

I'd also like to know what others are doing. I've had my truck a few weeks now, and I'd like to get a jump on this early. I do plan to get my truck undercoated before the winter, but anything else I should be rust protecting on my own time?

Do you guys think a spray can of Fluid Film Rust & Corrosion Protection would do the trick to prevent rusting like this?

It should. My 2015 had slight surface rust on the front of the diff housing when I bought it last fall. I had the Corrosion Free rust inhibitor sprayed on shortly after I got it and the rust didn't seem to get worse over the MI winter.
