Default Rust forming inside rear seat bracket

I pulled out my car seats the other day while vacuuming my truck and when I pulled the one seat forward by the jack I saw rust forming on the seat hinges?

I’ve owned this truck since new and have never left that window open in the rain I also pulled back the carpet to make sure nothing was wet from the recent rain we had - what gives?

I have a new 2017 lariat that I purchased in July. I have no other signs of water leaks or rust, but my seat frame in front of the jack is rusty like yours. My guess it's untreated metal just rusting from exposure to humid air. I'm in dry so cal, but my truck was delivered from central CA.

I'll check it every once in a while, but I won't lose any sleep over it.

Hit it with some flat black Rustoleum, then some lubricant and forget about it.

It may have had rust starting on the metal when it was made. Nothing to do with anything you've done.

Had the same thing happen with my 2012 but a little touch up with Rustoleum and it was gone. Inside of my truck was never wet so it was unpainted surface from the factory....

i'm going to revive this. I just bought a 2018 f150 and noticed there were rust on my rear seat brackets as well. I already mentioned it when I took delivery. i'm wondering if I should proceed with getting the seats replaced or just deal with it, since its bound to happen anyway.

If it's bare metal and if you have moisture inside you will have some surface rust,i highly doubt they will replace your seats over surface rust!!

thank you for your response mark, can you tell me when you bought your car, did it have surface rust? being such a senior of this amazing board. can you tell me if its common? what about for 2018s? :/ I had a 2007 ford explorer, problems after problems, really bad rust all over on the inside brackets. after having that explorer, I decided not to go back to buyin fords. but I have always been drawn to the f150, and had to get it since i'm told they are better than they use to be? (sales guy said 2012+ are good)

on the 2018 f150 the front drive/passenger seems to not have any rust. just the rear seat bracket, and that one screw. I took a look a the underside of my car, there are some small surface rust here and there. I think I can just clean it off and spray some rustoleum.

sales guy said service would call me today, but they didn't. pretty bummed about it. service is suppose to call to replace my driver side door handle (theres missing textured paint, im thinking it was some rubbing compound that got on it and removed the texture). and also replace the rear seats.

your 2 cents is much appreciated.
