Default Rough Idle

Hey guys, got a 2016 F150 with 5.0 at 30k miles. This morning I noticed that my idle seemed different that usual. I could hear the engine idling up and down. Even could see it on the rpm gauge. I am going to take it in to the shop. Anyone have any idea what causes this? What exactly do I call this, just a rough idle?

I had that issue with my 14 5.0 on cold mornings, just went away after going to supreme fuel.

Yes I have the same problem. It started with rough idle and stalling every now and then. Now happens daily. At dealer three times without fix. Going back next week.

There is a thread on this already that I added to. Please message me if you get any where. Thanks

Rough idle is more of a stumbling that you can feel. Sounds like you have a hunting idle.

Rough idle is often a spark energy issue. Bad or fouled plugs, bad coils.

Hunting or surging idle is often a vacuum leak, bad air flow data (failing MAF/MAP sensor), or bad throttle position info.

Default Rough Idle

My problem was with the VCT solenoids. Codes P0011 and P0012 showed up. The problem was when stopping at traffic light/stop sign the idle would fluctuate and then stall. Both solenoids were replaced and everything is good.

Hey everyone my 2016 XLT Scab just started doing it this week at 45k, I let the oil monitor get to 20% and sure enough it threw a p0022 code. I took it to the dealer and the are in the process of putting in 2 new cam phasers and new VCT solenoids. They said it’s covered by warranty but wouldn’t pay for a rental which is BS but whatever. I hope this is a one time fix and not a ongoing problem, all I ever hear is how bulletproof the 5.0 coyote is, not seeing it with this kind of problem at 45k already. Like someone else said if you get a rough idle at stops be sure to let the Oíl life run down to 20% so it throws the code and get it to the dealer before 60k warranty expires. My build was 10/2016, looks like they may have had a bad batch of Cam phasers towards the end of 2016.. I ll update when I get the truck back next week
