You have to have Android auto installed on the phone and have it connected via USB to the truck - did you? Pairing over bluetooth isn't enough.

Does anyone know if you can respond to an incoming text message (NOT with a canned response) but actual response, while the truck is moving while using an Android phone?

Sure -- I say "OK Google"; phone tells me it is listening; I say "Text--NAME here--": it asks me to speak the message; I do; it reads it back and asks me if it is OK to send... I say "Send it"

--- too be clear, the PHONE is doing this, not Sync..... but it is so simple

Have you updated your Sync3 software?
Have you replaced your USB hub?
Do you have your iPhone plugged in to that USB hub?
Do you have CarPlay enabled?

I did not have the phone connected. I thought I could do it with bluetooth pairing. Now, I get it thank you.

That means everytime I get into the truck I'll have to connect the phone with a usb cord, right? Seems rather low-tech given wireless options available today.

With android auto, Yes, you can read(It's read to you) and reply verbally. You don't have to use voice button, you can just say "ok Google" to activate it

The cable requirement is because of the large power usage of running Android auto. It would quickly kill your battery if it wasn't.

Also the bandwidth required for the video portion.

If your iPhone isn't plugged in, press and hold the voice command button on your steering wheel for 3 seconds. This connects to Siri. At the prompt, tell Siri who you want to text.
