Default Replace tire or new set?

I got a nail close to my sidewall, my tires have 15 k on them. Would you drive with a plug this close to the sidewall? My options are replace the tire which is going to be around 390- 400 bucks because it's a 285/55/20. Buy a new set of wildpeak at3w in 275/60/20 for 750 installed?Replace tire or new set?-photo232.jpg

I wouldn't drive with a plug at all... and I wouldn't trust a patch nearly that close to the sidewall. That tire's done. Replace it, or put a new set on... whatever you want to spend.

Plug it. Rotate the full size spare in and leave that one under the truck.

People would be surprised how well a good plug works.

I would plug it.It'll cost you a few dollars at Walmart and it's a simple procedure. The plug will last the lifetime of the tire.

I just plugged it was wondering because it was close to the sidewall.. I'll check the pressure in the morning to see if it's holding

Patch it. Discount Tire might do it for free.

Don't know if it's true for every State but in most the Tire Shops are not (legally) allowed to plug tires anymore.

It's been a long time since I saw a shop plug a tire. Discount and the like won't patch it when its near the sidewall. I like the idea of rotating the spare in. I had to replace one of my Michelins with about 19K on it. I just had it replaced, and put on the rear. I sure wasn't going to replace the set.

I have plugged a tire before, and they do work. I carried a kit in my truck for years.
