it doesnt leak, and is barely noticeable when the window is down...im going to try and sand it, thanks!

Myself i'd pay out of pocket or a DIY replace.
The less i contact my insurance company for any kind of claim the better.

If not a direct rock hit,
it looks like someone could of been prying on that window to get it open.
Or something hard got stuck in the window channel causing the chip.
it wasn't pried/tampered with luckily. i have window visors that are untouched and the windows are always up when its parked.

i'm going to try and sand it smooth and roll with it. if i'm not happy i guess i'll start chasing either a glass shop or a diy swap. insurance said i have no seperate glass coverage except for repairable chips and would have to pay the $500 deductible if the glass needed replacement

That is really weird. So there's no protruding clip or something in the upper channel that might have caused that? No other service problem history with that door? Any accidents?

I had a small chip right behind the mirror on the passenger front window. It had 2 small 1/2 inch runs on each side. Pretty sure it was a rock.
I had no idea that the F150s has laminated glass on the side windows! Being a volunteer fireman for 15 yrs ( some yrs back ) I had never seen that before. The glass shop tried to fix it without success. Had the chip and runs for over a yr without any further running. Just had it replaced a week ago.
Looks good except were the shop marked the door handle trying to remove the door handle. Grrrrrr.

I drive 65 miles to and from work 5 days a week, I have seen weirder stuff and have had damage to my car due to falling concrete from a bridge, and flying ice from a truck as well as I found a pair of pliers in my front grille!!

A couple of weeks ago a box truck, a couple of cars in front of me, lost it's wheels on both sides due to a Differential retaining pin failure. Watched two sets of Tires with Skewers attached go bouncing down the highway, now that's weird!

Back on topic. OP, if you are going to sand glass, make sure it's wet sanded, you don't want that window shattering on you due to hot spots caused by dry sanding.

Got a weirder rolling tire story.
During my teenage days i was driving down this 4 lane highway with my then girlfriend.

All of a sudden a car in the opposite direction had its driver's side wheel come off.
That wheel's trajectory was aimed right at my car and at a fast rolling speed.

My girl friend's screaming didn't help but i managed to dodge that dam rolling wheel at the last second..
Luckily i was in the left lane at the time with no vehicles in the right lane allowing me to maneuver away from that wheel.

Now for the even weirder part.
The car that wheel came off of was from my best buddies car and he was driving it!
Definitely was a Twilight Zone moment.
