Default Repair or Replace

My windshield was hit by a rock and made a chip and small cracks. Am I better off trying to get this repaired or replaced?
I was just thinking I could save the factory seal if repaired.

Looks small enough for them to repair, and since it's not in your line of sight you probably won't notice it once it's fixed.

In that location a repair wouldn't bother you to look at, I'd call a repair company, see what they say.

I would first go with the repair to try to save my factory seal - I've always had good luck with the repairs. But if that doesn't work, and it decides to spread down the road, replace it.

Get it repaired quickly. Those cracks can spread fast and then you won't have a choice.

I had one about that size happen when I was about 200 miles from home. By the time I got home it was about a foot long and unfixable.

I'd have it repaired, you will notice it when the glare hits just right(my chrome interior trim does the same thing btw) but it's worth the minor annoyance to not deal with having to do a new windshield. At 3-4 chips or one right in your line of sight, consider a new windshield. I have one like 8" up in the center of my windshield, even that is no big deal. I have a smaller one in the same area of yours, I really only notice it when I'm cleaning the windshield. No one ever notices the two repairs I have done when they ride in the truck or look at it.

Many auto policies will attempt a repair for FREE. Contact your insurance company. A glass repair is a non-chargeable item even if you end up claiming a whole windshield.

That is a good point. The last three windshields I had replaced required return visits for leaks, bad trim install, and in one case they didn't set it even close to flush. It's hard to find good work these days.

Pretty sure I have this, as I cant remember the last time I paid for a windshield repair. My replacement was pretty cheap as well. I suppose it matters which insurance company you have as well as your deductible.
