Default Remove Tailgate Step?

I've got a 17 F150 with the tailgate step and while the design is much better than the previous design, I'd like to remove it forever. I use my truck for construction so every time I drag something out of the bed it will catch on the plastic trim and pull some of the trim off. Then I have to go and push the trim back in place. I've already broken a couple of the plastic clips that hold it in place and I'm not interested in getting a replacement as the problem will just come back.
I had a 14 with the previous step design and all I did was remove the step and fabricate a plate that bolted into place and that fixed my problem. The step design on the 17 isn't as easy to "delete" so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to get rid of it. Would it be as simple as removing the step and just getting the top plastic piece from a tailgate that doesn't have the step?
On other places I've looked it said to look on Craigslist to see if anyone has a normal tailgate and see if they will swap but I'm not interested in that.

Why wouldn't you be interested in a whole tailgate swap? I don't want to swap, but it seems like someone would want to swap. Or has all that construction beat it up a bit?

Yeah I'm sure you'd have no trouble trading for a non step one.

I would think that the tailgate without the step would be more structurally solid than the one with a step. Similar to a convertible being less structurally solid than a non-convertible. Just something to think about depending on how much you intend to use it for work.

Default Tailgate step

I'll swap you happily. Been wanting one, it was the one option my truck didn't have that I wanted.

Where are you located? I'm in socal, been looking on Craigslist but haven't had any luck yet.

I have got the white platinum color. 2017 Lariat 502A package.
I don't love the idea of swapping but maybe I'm just being silly.

Same issue with my brothers King Ranch. You can't slide off a bale of hay without it breaking/popping off.

As nice as the tailgate step is for climbing in and out of the bed it doesn't do anything to help loading and unloading cargo and often makes it more difficult by getting in the way.
