Default Remote tailgate disable

So I have one of those new trucks with the remote tailgate on the FOB. Is there anyway to disable this so it doesn't work on the FOB and you have to press the button on the tailgate to get it to open?

I'm scared I'll hit the wrong button in a parking lot and drop it on someones hood or my garage wall by accident.

If not maybe you Ford service guys on here could make it a suggestion in a software update with an option to disable the FOB tailgate release.

I think I read a while back you can pop the fob open and disable the button. Like a piece of electrical tape over the contacts or removing the piece that does the poking. Haven't done it myself though. I think the button is useless. I'd rather have one that opens all the windows like my Titan did. Another thing to be careful of is if you use the keypad to unlock it then hit 5/6 ( I think) it will drop the tailgate. Found that out the hard way. I had my truck about a week and was practicing using the backup camera. So every time I got home, I would use the camera and get as close as I could to my boat trailer hitch. Then I'd get out and look and see if it was close enough to hitch up. Well it was parked like that, but the trailer wasn't hooked up so the tongue jack was up. Hit my code, then the tailgate button and heard it pop in slow motion. I ran around and tried to catch the tailgate. I think I would have got it before it hit anything, but it ended up missing by an inch anyways. Very close call!

Ok so today I solved part of the remote tailgate release problem.

For those saying you can put a piece of tape over a contactor that will not work.

However there is a way to disable it. It will be non reversible once you do it.

1 Take the back off the key fob which will expose the spare key

2. Then pop the inner cover off and remove it as if you were replacing the battery

3. Then you will see the green motherboard with a clear rubber surround, pop that out

4. When you take that out and flip it over you will notice rubber pieces sticking up that are the go between the motherboard and the button. I shaved the one off for the tailgate and that does the trick.

I also did the panic button as well as that is worthless too. If you use it to find your truck you can just keep hitting the lock button.

Thanks! followed your instructions and removed the two raised rubber pieces. Stopping that repeated involuntary embarrassing panic alarm, and the nasty potential to damage the tailgate.

No problem

Now Ford needs to allow us to turn off the 5/6 button and we are all set!

it is reversible buy a new rubber and throw it in the glove box. I keep the fob in my pocket and unlock the rig by proximity and sensors on handle. Manual tailgate all the time. I mistakenly dropped the tailgate at the BORG but luckily I was at the contractor entrance where there is larger parking. Thanks for the fix. I've got my rubber for emergency replacements. (Never until resale)
