Default Remote start issues

Truck is a 2018 STX 4x4

Backstory. I remote started the truck one morning, ran it out of of gas, the whole parked on an incline thing. Had a quarter tank in it at the time. Starter disabled itself as well. Sat for a bit, rolled into the street and fired right up.

Ever since that happened my remote start hasn’t worked. The truck came with the Flashlogic FLCAN module utilizing the lock-unlock-lock method.

I’ve gone through and reset the module, reprogrammed, etc. I’ve gone through Forscan checking that it’s all still enabled and nothing. No CEL’s other than the U0422 from the tire size change. That code was present when remote start was functional.

Any ideas? I’m at my wits end at this point. Spent several hours trying to sort this out. Only thing I can think of at this point is the module happened to crap out at the same time.

Thanks!

One symptom that disables remote start is if the hood is open. It sounds like it has been long enough that your hood is not raised while you are testing.
When mine 'ran out of gas', my starter/ignition functioned and I could crank until the cows came home.

Perhaps your battery is too low now as that is another thing that disables remote start.

I considered those as an option. Battery is good. Hood has been open and closed several times since then.

evidently after 60 seconds of cranking, not necessarily at once, the truck will disable the starter, I reckon to save on the fuel pump and starter.

I’ll add that it’s been a month or so since I ran it out of gas.

Running it out of gas may have set some trouble codes even if you don't see a check engine light. If certain codes are set the remote start will not work.

Turn the ignition on then off 5 times. You should get a hazard light flash after the 5th time. You probably accidentally put it in valet mode.

I’ll give that a shot. I did cycle the key several times to attempt to prime the pump.

No luck. Also didn’t get a flash after 5 cycles.

I’ll also note the FLCAN has a valet switch and I’ve attempted remote start in both positions.

Flcan shouldn’t have a switch. If it’s tied into the green/black wire on the black 10 pin plug, you can just unplug it, it’s unnecessary. I install these for a living. Does the truck have an illuminated CEL in the dash, or just a code that shows up in forscan? Are the lights doing anything when you attempt to remote start? Usually you’ll get 3 flashes then some more to indicate what the error is.

Unhook the battery for 10-15 minutes ...hook it back up and try your remote start again.
