Default Ready to Pull the Trigger

I decided to trade my '11 XLT for a new XLT crew cab while my truck still has some decent value. I am shopping online and have found some better deals out of town.

I found an XLT V8 w/ 3.55 EL diff, 302A group, heavy duty towing pack, nav, etc.

So I just ran the VIN on google and Edmunds has identified this vehicle with option code 16G that is black vinyl flooring. I have never seen this type of flooring in a truck in this price range. Now I am wondering exactly what kind of flooring/fitment it has and whether or not I would be happy with it.

Its odd that this option doesnt show on window sticker and the photos on dealer's website aren't clear enough for me to see the flooring.

Does anyone here have this type of flooring? If so, are you satisfied with it? Is interior noise any higher with this flooring vs carpet?

Thanks,

It's probably a mistake on Edmunds part. I'm sure it's carpeted. Call the dealer and ask if you want to be sure.

I wasn't aware the VIN told you of the interior items in modern trucks? Maybe in the past, but not today.

Maybe it was telling you the base option for that vin, or maybe the truck was ordered that way

Default VIN info on Edmunds

The interior flooring build code that Edmunds identified by VIN was incorrect. I had salesman check and truck did have carpet.

I left San Antonio and drove to Houston yesterday evening and picked up the vehicle. Took about two hours to get truck detailed and close the deal with my '11 XLT trade.

That's because the VIN doesn't give you the interior options.

Glad to hear that you picked up your truck!

Default New Truck

I picked up my new truck Friday night and drove 200 miles to get home. Ran engine rpms up several times to seat the rings. I think I will wash and wax it in the morning. I also plan to crawl under it in the next couple of days and inspect undercarriage for any bare metal and touch up the areas with some rattle-can paint.

I have the Husky wheel liners on order, and a brake controller is on order from Tasca Parts.

I plan to use a drop-in bed liner so I may go by a shop that sells all kinds of rubber/ gasket materials and pick up some six inch wide strips of 1/8 rubber sheeting and set on bed before liner is installed. I am thinking that the rubber might prevent some chafing of paint on bed.

Anyway, truck drives and rides extremely well. Seems to be much quieter than my '11. I do notice a light vibration at high speed that may be coming from the Hankook tires. Maybe wheels need to be re-balanced?

I have never modified any my previous f150s but I have seen some recommendations on this forum in regard to improved handling with the Hellwig anti-sway bar. Is the improvement worth the money because I dont notice the back end leaning over.

Thanks, JP

I'm getting in your business...

Two trucks ago I had the drop in bed liner from new. I drove it for 14 years and about 240,000 miles. Two or three times I took the bedliner out for reasons I can't remember right now. Something that always struck me as funny is there wasn't any rubbed off paint and there wasn't any rust. Two things I had been warned about by people who probably didn't really know and simply thought it would happen. I've never looked under the liner on my '04 that's 12 years old. I think you're worrying needlessly and making an easy job (dropping in the bedliner) too complicated.

Nice truck! Congratulations!

Good luck!

I have used drop-in liners in three of my past trucks and I never had any reason to remove them. I traded in my '11 for this new truck and I was washing out bed and looked under liner and I didnt notice and rust or paint damage, just a small amount of dirt, so I would have to agree with you, drop-in liner damage is minimal if any.

I just like the fact that the liners do prevent dents to bed and sides. I also used a rubber mat from a previous truck (w/o liner) for added protection and to keep stuff from sliding around on the liner. Those thick rubber mats will probably last a 100 years!
