Default RCSB for a daily driver - engine choice

I have a 2WD 2010 RCSB Ranger I use as a daily driver beater vehicle. It's very handy because of the small size and fairly small turning radius. I am considering replacing it with a new 2WD RCSB Regular Cab F-150.

Most of my driving will be short trips to work and lunch. I will occasionally do light towing over short distances. By light I mean less than 3000 lbs..

Obviously the 3.5 NA is plenty of power for my needs. But it would be nice to have the power of the 2.7 for the grin factor. And I have even considered the 5.0, again just for the fun of it.

One thing I was wondering was would the constant short trips be harder on the turbo engine? I have never had a turbo vehicle before and didn't know if there were any special considerations when it comes to a steady diet of short trips.

Thanks for your input!

You'll get a lot of different responses on your question.

I'm partial to the 5.0, love that Coyote Mustang V8 sound and I believe it's a bargain for the price. I mean, who don't like a 385 hp V8!

If you drive the 2.7 you will be amazed at the torque. It's quite a motor.

I'm sure they are all good motors and you won't go wrong with any of them.

Get ready for some reading...............................

I couldn't even imagine a RCSB w/ the v8. I have an XLT Screw v8 w/ 3.55 and it feels like I'm driving a sports car.

In the end it's up to you, but if you're considering buying it for a bit of a fun factor, I'd say the sound/feel of the coyote. They're all monsters really, excluding the 3.5NA of course. You'll just have to test drive them all!

I don't think you will be disappointed by either the 2.7EB or 5.0. Personally, I wouldn't even consider the 3.5NA. It's a boring motor and not even in the same ballpark as the other two.

Yep. I'd say go with either the 2.7 or the 5.0. For your needs I'd find the truck with the options I was looking for and then just check to make sure it had one of those engines. Done. Both of them will scream in that truck.

I went with the 2.7, 3.73 locking rear but it is 4wd. You'll be impressed with what it will do. I tow light loads myself 3000- 5000 lbs and no issues. All around gas mileage drops from the 19 - 20 range to about 14 towing.

RCSB + 5.0 + 3:73 = FUN!

If yer the type of person who will turn around to check out a Car/Truck because of the sound of its V8 or a Harley going by, get the V8-->Then you will never have to say "Coulda Had A V8"...Non-V8 powered vehicles don't make me turn around and think to myself, that sounds Cool...Even when they have custom exhaust trying to make their vehicle sound Bad Azz-->LOL!

On The Other Hand, if that's not yer cup of Tea, then get the other engines.

While the 2.7 with it's Compressed Graphite Iron block... it's not even a block; it's just a spacer between the aluminum main cap girdle and aluminum heads... is a technological wonder, so is the 5.0 Coyote engine, but with a Ford Cosworth DFV twist...

If you did a 5.0 in a RCSB, be sure to look at lowering it, just to make it look good proportionately. It'd be really fast, sound fantastic, and look great!

When I say "lower", I don't mean by much. I think Ford Performance Parts offers a kit. That way you can maintain all Ford part numbers. That'd be cool. Ok, I'm done.
