I can't compare it to a previous Ford product with nav as I have never owned one. I can compare it to my previous 2011 KIA Optima and 2014 Subaru Outback. They were both better by miles (pun intended) than the Sync 3 nav.

But none of them hold a candle to Garmin in terms of interface, searchability and look and feel.

I just don't understand why all car companies insist on doing their own version of this kind of thing. Why not just sub-contract it out to someone like Garmin or TomTom who already have a very functional product? No need to re-invent the light bulb when Thomas Edison already beat you to it.

 

I can't comment on Sync 3 as I have sync 2. But The Nav system on my old 2012 Charger RT (the whole infotainment system really) was miles ahead Ford's solutions. Also my short lived 2016 Jetta had a better Nav system as well.

 

Keep in mind that Carplay and Android Auto are still coming out before the end of the year, so things will only get better for Sync 3. In the very least, it will offer an easily switchable alternative to the standard sync-3 interface for those that don't prefer it.

From what I've seen in toyota, nissan, hyundai, chevy, and ram, sync 3 is better.

 

It is leaps and bounds better than most.

I think its Garbage... its almost as bad as the previous version of sync. Some of the issues I have come across are

- bluetooth track information randomly drops off
- bluetooth audio randomly wont work however phone calls and contacts are fine ( does come back up but not until disconnected and reconnecting to the phone)
- when previous audio source is sirius, but currently listening to bluetooth and connection gets dropped it sometimes goes back to sirus but most of the time reverts back to AM (and who listens to AM anymore)
- Audio will randomly not work, will show as being on but not selectable in bottom tray
- climate controls will display when their not suppose to (i have and XLT, which is not an option for my model)
- Phone Battery Low, and Phone Reconnected pop ups don't dissapear until you press the close button (this is highly annoying)
- Unit randomly powers down
- Unit will continue to run with truck powered off, keys out of ignition and door open (randomly)


I will say however that Navigation is MUCH improved over previous Sync MFT

 

I also have many of these issues as well...Bluetooth needs some work for sure as well as the Spotify app itself. But its definitely faster than Sync 2.

And I agree with an earlier poster - need a home button on every screen. I like the fact that my wifes Escape has the home button right on the steering wheel.

I voted for better than most. I speak with a slight Asian accent but it seems to understand voice commands (mostly).
