If you've never done it, take it to a reputable pro. You can tear up a new gearset quickly if you don't know all the ins and outs.

If your gear-changing abilities match your typing abilities, I would suggest taking it to a professional.

Jesus just last week I complimented your SE build...not even a “thanks.”

I sensed you’re an arrogant elitist, but damn; inferiority and pedantry complex much?

Think about this, the end result of installing a 'posi' will mean that you can get traction at both rear wheels starting off, under load. After that, it's one wheel drive again. That's not a knock or anything, 'posi' is good! If you have only an open rear end, it's a great upgrade. However, this is not a job for the inexperienced. Replacing the parts required is pretty much simple. It's the setup that is the crucial thing when doing this. If you don't have the proper tools to do this and the proper measuring devices, take it to a pro.

I never claimed to be nice... only accurate. Doing gear swaps is a bit of an art form - damn sure over my head - and I've seen what happens when you don't do them right. Even if you're "close", in short order, you chew up a couple grand worth of gears. If the OP has to come on here to ask about doing it... there's a very good chance he (or she?) doesn't have the necessary skills to get it done right.

As for the "thanks", most forums I frequent don't have them, so I don't think about it.

Truetrac > posi, hate clutches and it's just a better unit. It's an easy job if you do these kinds of things, just take your time. Use new bearings and attach them with a press. Accurately measure backlash when you shim. Double check gear mesh and do it right, don't skip steps. I assume this is 2wd if you're only doing gears on the back otherwise there might be a surprise in the future

Yup, 4WD requires both diffs to be swapped or else your first shift into 4WD will be a memorable one.
