Loving the Raptor steering wheel! Thanks for harness as well. Makes for a very easy install!

Hey guys, I don't really want to start my own thread on this, but I hope it's ok to ask here. I have a 2015 f150 and my steering wheel is peeling pretty bad. I bought it new and it sucks to see something like this especially when it slowly gets worse by the day. Anyway, my question is can a dealer replace it with a leather steering wheel and I pay the difference for the upgraded steering wheel? I asked my dealer and they said no, but I don't think they understood what I was asking. Basically can I get a limited or raptor wheel and subtract the cost of a xlt wheel. Has anyone done this? Or will I just have to buy a leather wheel and just eat the cost?

Here's a pic of my wheel as of earlier today.

You can get the new Platinum Wheel for around $250.00 and install it yourself in as few as 30 minutes.... That's the route I would take - if for no other reason than to keep the trucks downtime to a minimum.

Unfortunately, you will have to eat the cost. I would still have the dealer replace it. That way you can sell it as a new take off. It seems that the 2017s have a better quality leather steering wheel on the 302a. They may replace it with that.

If they will replace the wheel under warranty, let them do it and as mentioned replace it with the Limited/Platinum (or Raptor) wheel and sell the new one they've used to replace the defective one. Works out pretty much the same as the dealer letting you upgrade, just a little more work (more hassle) on you end.

Thanks for the help guys. I had no idea the 2017 steering wheel was better for the xlt. I'll probably go with replacing my steering wheel through the dealer and if it's good enough for me I'll keep it. If not then I'll go ahead and get the platinum steering wheel and sell the newly replaced wheel. I just dread having to be separated from my truck. Hopefully the dealer can get it done quickly lol.

Dealer should be able to do it in under 30 minutes. The longest part is getting all the electronics to loose any residual charge. After that it's a plug and play operation with one bolt.

If the dealer still balks at this, or you decide to go another way, I just might have a 2015 limited leather wheel (it has the heating element although you would need the heating module to get the heat to work).

(this also means I just finished installing my Raptor wheel and wiring the paddles up, for those interested, removing the cowl around the wheel and soldering the wires into the glovebox plug took the longest. All in it took about 3.5 hours but thats with the 30 min power drain and a 20+ min hardware store trip)

Just let me know if your interested in the wheel as I was just going to store it.

30 minute power drain of what---the airbag module? Should be ok just unhooking your battery and should be good to go.

I've seen a few places that talk about the 30 minutes (as a precaution) and one that talked about unhooking the negative then running a short from negative to positive to complete the drain so I figured I'd just play it safe. During that time I used a coat hanger to run the harness wiring behind the dash and did some other prep so it wasn't totally wasted time.
