Default Programming 3rd key

I know this have been discussed here, and last night I found a few posts with instructions here using a google search. But the instructions are vague and my key is still unprogrammed. I've read the instructions in the manual are wrong, and they must be because there are some things that don't make sense--like removing the intelligent access key from the ignition--not the little slot? The instructions I found here are vague because people talk about the buttons being up or down, but my key slot is at the bottom of the cup holder so the buttons would either face toward the front of back of the car. So I tried it both ways. There are times like "5 seconds" but is that at least 5 seconds or more than 5 seconds or EXACTLY 5 seconds. And there are so many steps that it's really hard, or very time consuming, to try this every way possible based on vague instructions. Does someone have a link to very specific very clear instructions? Video would be great, but I think all the videos I found on youtube were for different keys. I have Intel Access and just bought a brand new 3rd off ebay. (I do have the original two keys and they work, BTW.)
Thanks,
Mike Todd

Is this one of the methods you tried? Replacing storage compartment with the under cup holder location on yours.

Is the eBay key a new one or a previously used one? The instructions that robbieg posted are the same that I used and it worked first time.. every time you're doing a step just count to 7 ...

Yep, that's the one I tried the most number of times.

I'll try that. Yes, it's a new key. At this point, I wish there was in indicator on it to find out if the battery is dead.

There are two batteries in it,, and a plastic separator between them that has to be installed correctly..

So when you do this is the truck responding that it's programmed? Just for the heck of it remove your two good ones from the area, and then with the new one in the slot try starting the truck.. Also you can check the instrument panel to see how many fob's it's showing programmed for the truck..

I'm new to this. How would the truck respond that it's programmed? And where on the instrument panel does it show how many keys?
Thanks,
Mike Todd

1. Place the first programmed key in the
backup slot (A) in the center console,
then press the push button ignition
switch. Insert the first previously
programmed coded key into the
ignition.

2. Wait five seconds and then press the
push button ignition switch again.
Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep
the ignition on for at least three
seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
3. Remove the intelligent access key.
Switch the ignition off and remove the
first coded key from the ignition.
4. Within 10 seconds, place a second
programmed intelligent access key in
the backup slot. Press the push button
ignition switch. After three seconds but
within 10 seconds of switching the
ignition off, insert the second previously
coded key into the ignition.
5. Wait five seconds and then press the
push button ignition switch again.
Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep
the ignition on for at least three
seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
6. Remove the intelligent access key.
Switch the ignition off and remove the
second previously programmed coded
key from the ignition.
7. Place the unprogrammed intelligent
access key in the backup slot and press
the push button ignition switch. After
three seconds but within 10 seconds
of switching the ignition off and
removing the previously programmed
coded key, insert the new
unprogrammed key into the ignition.
Programming is now complete. Verify the
remote control functions operate and your
vehicle starts with the new intelligent
access key.
If programming was not successful, wait
10 seconds and repeat Steps 1 through 7.
If you are still unsuccessful, take your
vehicle to an authorized dealer.

OK, this may or may not be helpful.

I tried following the instructions like you did, with no luck.

Then I researched it, and found out that the instructions in red should be ignored.

So try this. Ignore the 3 to 10 second delay when changing fobs, do it as quickly as you can. I ignored the times listed, and just did it straight thru. The last attempt worked (of course, LOL).

You check for success by trying the door locks with the new fob. If they lock, success. Everything will work.

Good luck.

This!

And realize, I'm an English teacher. I look at those from the manual like my students look at Shakespeare. Grrrrr.

I agree. But if you read my post, I said not to follow the manual instructions.

This guy posted a good summary of what worked for him. As I said, the trick is to do it quicker than the manual says.

Here's what I did...
1. I put a small piece of masking tape on the two programmed keys so I knew which keys were which and put all three by the shift lever for easy identification and accessibility.
2. I placed the first programmed key in the backup position
3. With left hand, Press Start\Stop button
4. Counted to three maybe four seconds (one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand)
5. With left hand, pressed Start\Stop button
6. With right hand, swapped first programmed key with second programmed key (quickly)
7. With left hand, pressed Press Start\Stop button
8. Counted the three maybe four seconds (one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand)
9. With right hand, swapped second programmed key with the un-programmed key (quickly)
10. With left hand, pressed Start\Stop button
11. Door locks cycled and dashboard light up and dashboard counsel stated “Key Programming Successful”

I put both factory keys in the house and tested the new key on door locks, tailgate release and remote start and it works just like the factory keys.

I hope the slightly modified procedure will work for others! Thanks again Shovel-ready!

Did this today on my 2016 Platinum. Worked exactly as described!
