Default Power outlet in the bed.

I'm sure there is a thread on this I just wasn't able to find it so please don't chew my head off if there is. I just bought a 2017 xlt. It has the hole in the bedliner where a 12 volt power outlet would be but was not added on my truck. I bought the truck two days ago and left to go out of town yesterday so haven't had time to investigate but I would say the wiring is probably already run back there I would just need to buy the outlet and it will plug right in. If anybody has any insight on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Ive never seen a power outlet in the bed. Maybe your thinking of where the led bedlight switch goes?

I believe Antho is correct, no outlet in the bed, but my drop in liner has two openings with a rubber removable seal, and one side is the button to turn on the LED Bed Lights, don't remember what, if anything, is behind the other one.

There hasn't been an option on any trim F-150 in my memory that has a 12V in the bed.

If I recall correctly, I think Toyota is the only company with a power outlet in the bed. I don't think any other manufacturer is able to do it because of a patent (correct me if I am wrong someone?).

Definitely not a Ford option, but I'm thinking of doing this if I can figure out how to make it waterproof. I don't even think the Marine outlets are particularly waterproof.

if it isn't that the only other thing I can think of that is commonly wired inside the bed of pickup is for gooseneck/fifth wheel connection.

How often are you going to use this and for what purpose. In my world, I've wanted a plug back there occasionally when I'm working off my tailgate and wanted to plug my phone in nearby. For this I use my portable battery now, but if I did need one I'd probably just buy one of these that plug into the 7 wire trailer plug:

Or this:

Or assuming you have a sliding back window, plug it in inside the truck and run a long 12v extension wire out to the back when it's needed.

Will those work with Ford's smart trailer connector? Will those work with the truck powered off?

Would be safer to mount a trailer style plug or any type of weather proof connector. Plug into that with a 12v adapter/cable. I wouldn't want a 12v power source in the elements.
