Platinum Polished Aluminum wheels Uncoated!
Well, that does not seem to be true for all Platinum wheels.
I searched for this thread to find hints on polishing my brand new 20" wheels.
First, I tried a product that is used to put a mirror shine on aircraft fuselages. Did nothing, the product stayed pink after rubbing the wheel, was supposed to turn black.
So I tried a Collinite Marine Metal liquid polish, no change.
Then a general metal cleaner that is rated to work on aluminum.
Guess what? my Platinum wheels definitely have a clear coat on them, and a tough one at that. I concentrated on one spoke with all 3 products, and I did not faze the coating.
Oh well, I was hoping to put a mirror shine on the wheels. Guess not.

I work at a very high end detail shop. When the detail side washes wheels we will use an acid to break up the grime and brake dust. We will not use the acid if the car has ceramic brake disk and or naked aluminum (no clear coat). On naked aluminum if sprayed with acid it will turn white very quickly and needs to be washed off immediately. The Platinum wheel is NOT unprotected aluminum. So to all who think the wheel is aluminum with no protection I can tell you it has a coating on the aluminum.

The question remains... When I had the tire shop install my tires they also scuffed up the wheels. It was very fine scuffs and they used some eagle one nevr-dull and the marks disappeared. If there was clear on the wheels I wouldn't think they would scuff? I also would think the eagle one would damage the wheel and you could see a difference where it was applied? Maybe some could shine some light onto what I am thinking?

Just like some people have rear axles that are rusty. Mine came completely painted , no rust.
