Default Platinum Engine advice

I am looking at getting the Platinum 4x4 and need help deciding on which engine I should get. I don't tow anything currently, strictly driving from work and without a bed full of cargo. Which would you suggest I go with? Thanks all

You listed everything you require of the truck. You really can't decide? Research and come to a clear, accurate, and precise decision without the judgements of others who will not be driving your vehicle.

If you don't anticipate the need to tow something heavy down the line and would prefer better gas mileage, get the 2.7 EB

Basically it comes down to what you want performance wise. I went from a 14 5.0 with RoushYates CAI and exhaust to a stock 2.7 eco and couldn't be happier. I do miss sounding like a muscle car once in awhile though. Lol

My understanding is with the Platinum, there are two options for engines, the 3.5 ecoboost and the 5.0 v8. i personally don't have any experience with the 5.0 but from what i hear, it is a good engine. My brother has one in his 2013 and has never had a problem. It has plenty of pep. I recently bought a Limited with the 3.5 ecoboost and although I only have 400 km i couldn't be happier. My last two F150's had the 6.2. Partly because it was the only engine available in the 2011 Limited but mostly because i am a bit old school and felt a bit V8 would be more reliable and was a bit skeptical of the new tech in the eco. I got the same engine in my 2014 since i had no issues with the 2011 even though i had the choice between that and the eco. After owning one, i have to admit i was maybe wrong about doubting the eco. It has plenty of power and sips fuel compared to the 6.2. They are both good engines. My advice would be to drive them both and buy the one that suits you. Don't get caught up in the 'mine is better since i chose it' mentality that you come across on the internet. If you do, there is no right choice.

Drive both, see which one you like more.

3.5EB- Better for towing
5.0- Sounds better

Both get similar MPG

Please don't start another EB vs 5.0 thread, there are plenty. Just drive both, choose, be happy. General consensus... If you aren't towing giant loads, both are great engines.

Yes drive both. They are both good but different in how they deliver power. Eco has more grunt, 5.0 revs better. So how do you drive? If you never go over 3k rpm but want torque then the Eco is the best. If you routinely seem to go over that rpm when you are accelerating, you may like the 5.0 bc that's where it starts to become responsive and lively.

I got the Platinum fully loaded with the 3.5 EB. As others have stated, you don't get the traditional sound of a 5.0 Ford engine (besides the fake engine noise piped into the cockpit which many end up disabling). Gas mileage is comparable from all the reading / research I did.

The main reason I love the EB is the Torque. The thing hauls a** off the line, I love it (especially in Sport mode). Test drive both and make your own decision. GL!

My platinum is a 5.0 with 3:55's and has plenty of power, very happy with it.

Went from 2013 5.0 to a 2015 2.7, and towing 4000 pounds, couldn't be happier.
