Default PCM Strategy code

I've been trying to tune my truck with both 5 star and MPT, I want to have both, so I can decide for myself which one I like better.

5 star won/t/can't tune my truck since they're telling me the PCM strategy code is outdated, I've been fighting my dealer about this issue... and they won't update it ( I've even offered to pay for it )
It's been in a couple times, and both times I've asked for the PCM to be updated, they say ok... but apparently it's still an outdated code.

MPT however has no problems with the old strategy code, and sent me my tunes the same day. I'm currently running 91 performance/tow, and when I get bored I'll switch over to the MPX tune.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a hard time getting their dealers to update their pcm so they could get a 5 star tune

Sounds like a 5 Star issue to me.

I went into the dealer when I had my 14 eco and paid them $120 to update mine. Try another dealer. As far as it being a 5* issue, I don't think they are out of line with how they operate. IIRC they only provide support to so many strategies and therefore require you to keep them updated as they update their tuning to match.

I'm thinking the same thing...

Looks like I'll have to stick with the MPT tune

Raleigh Durham PCM Strategy Update Service with OEM Ford VCM II and licensed IDS

Do you want your FORD PCM updated to the latest TSB Strategy Code but the local Ford dealers refuse to do it?
Has your tuner told you they can no longer tune your vehicle because your PCM is one or multiple updates behind?
Do you have drivability issues that were supposed to be improved with a PCM TSB Strategy update but your dealer does not believe the TSB applies to your car or won't even look it up?

I can help with an update service using a genuine OEM Ford Rotunda VCM II interface module and Ford IDS update software using a genuine Ford license subscription to access all FORD updates from the OEM Ford servers.

I was in the same boat trying to get my PCM updated as requested by my Ford tuner, but all local dealers would not do it even if I offered to pay for the service.

So I went and invested in a complete OEM Ford Rotunda module and Ford IDS software/software license. This is a major investment as you may know. The VCM/IDS tools are $1600 and the annual license for accessing the Ford servers to download updates and use the tools is $850

I am offering this service to help other Ford vehicle owners who can't get this done from local Ford dealers and to recoup my investment in part.

I charge $85 per PCM update for a gas engine Ford vehicle and $150 for a diesel engine Ford vehicle (Diesel engine vehicles take twice the time (about an hour) and require three modules being updated).

Let me know if interested. I want to help other Ford enthusiasts to get out of the pickle I was in and avoid the frustration I had with local dealerships.

The improvement on my 2013 F-150 to the latest strategy code and resetting all PCM and trans adaptations was massive for me! My 2013 drives and shifts like a 2015 now. It completely fixed the "lazy throttle response" issue of the early Ecoboosts. Anyway, let me know.

Be careful. MPT is tuned to your current strategy code. If you go and get it updated and they change the strategy code, your MPT tunes will not work. You will then have to get get MPT to change your tunes to match which will cost you more $$$. In all honesty, from past experiences, I would just stay with MPT.

edit- found the post.

unless he's able to do it remotely, I won't be able to take the downtime if I need to remove my pcm and send it in.

I'm happy with the MPT tune, the 91 tow/performance tune is how these trucks should have come from the factory, once I get bored I'll try the mpx tune
